whats a hot cam sound like?
I just got finished installing the LT4 hot cam, and Bob's LTCC setup in my 94 Camaro. I got it started and well, I'm kinda paranoid. I'm about to hook a scanner up to it, but I figured I'd ask. I was told that a Hotcam wouldn't change the sound of the engine much. This thing is loud! (Could be because I'm not used to hearing it in a garage.) But it's just as loud as my brother's camaro with a cc306 cam.
Don't ask me why, but I'm always paranod about timing. even though I don't know how you could screw up timing on a 4th gen, the fact that it's louder then expected, and the fact that it to more cranking to start makes me paranoid.
Will somebody tell me to shut up.

Re: whats a hot cam sound like?
I just installed the hot cam kit in my '94 Z-28. SLP headers, gutted cat converter, stock factory cat back exhaust, pcmforless tune. The idle is about 950rpm. The exhaust is only slighty louder with a slight lope. My other '94
Z-28 is bone stock with gutted cat converter. The hot cammed Z-28 is louder but the headers contribute some, overall there is not a major difference in exhaust noise level. I really like the hot cam, SLP and gutted cat combination but my preference is throaty exhaust note and a little less noise.

Mine has a stock manifold and a flowmaster exhaust. I don't really like the way it sounds.

i really cant say in comparison cuz nobody around here has hopped up LT-1s, but i know my car sounds much more agro than it did before the hot cam...
maybe the guys that said it wont sound much different than a stock LT-1 have some fatty cams but i sure can tell a difference.
ive got a sound clip....ill try and send it to you later....

Re: whats a hot cam sound like?
I've done the LT4/Hotcam conversion on my Vette and even with no mufflers it isn't that bad. You can tell, but it is pretty mild.
With a bump in idle speed (850-875 for my auto) you should be able to hide most of the lope.
If you'd like a crappy, loping, faky idle then drop it down to 550. That should impress the 'tards.
