When to do plugs on LT1???
My cars about it hit 60K miles, I was thinking about doing the plugs & wires.
But it is needed, the thing runs great & it but out pretty good RWHP numbers for a stock A4 LT1, on the dyno a few months back "see sig".
Still some people say I could be missing performance & not even know it, still the car runs good & pulls hard to redline.
Seems like the most I would gain "if any" with new plugs would be 1-2 hp, what say you??

I had to change mine at 62,000 b/c the car was running like crap it gave me a hell of a lot more horsepower b/c she was draging like a dog. Those platinums don't last to 100k I don't care what gm says!

If there's no problem then dont bother. I did plugs and wires when I put my longtubes in. I couldnt even tell you where the plugs and wires were with my stock manifolds in. Unless the car isnt running right or you put headers in, forget about it.
By the way, my car had 85k on it at the time of the change and everything was running perfectly.

I changed mine at 105,000 miles and they weren't too bad. They were the originals and I only changed them because I was doing longtubes.
If you don't think you need 'em, don't worry about 'em for now. If you plan on doing headers sometime in the future you can probably just wait until then.

Do the plugs now. Don't delay. The plugs will become harder to remove with each mile. And after 60k there is no way they are working as well as new plugs, and they will be tight to remove.
I have stock manifolds and I remove the y-pipe every year (ten minutes) and re-lube the studs with never-sieze, and install new copper NGKs. Takes about one hour. I like to look inside the engine by seeing the plugs every year. No more plats for me.

I change my ngk's about every 6 months or 6000 mi.The coil wire seems to be the week link in my car,so I change it at the same time.My msd's are over 2 years old now,but still holden up ok for now.Call me weird, but the car starts with imediately all the time,I just turn the key for a split second, and she starts right up.
The plugs will tell you what's going on in your engine(to me).
I like going up to redline,but quicker,so I run the NGK's.My 02.
(Just a note=when my# 8 plug showed heavy carbon, and was a little wet, that told me I had the intake manifold leak, fixed the leak, plugs were normal after that.).

I use NGK TR55s. For $15 for a plug change, there is no reason not to do them every 10k or so. Maybe its just me, but people overexagerate plug changes on these cars.
BTW, when I bought the car with 90k on it, it was only getting 13 MPG on average. I thought this was normal coming from a V8. Decided to change out the stock plugs, and got 20 MPG. I tested my stock GM wires at 100k and they were fine, though I changed them out to Taylors recently due to burning them up on LTs.

If you do headers, search on ebay for "knuckle saver" and it will make changing plugs much easier. For my supercharged car, I change the plugs every 10-15k miles. Before the supercharger, I only changed the plugs twice, once when I did the headers and about a week later when I figured out that the bosch platinum plugs don't work well in these cars.
