Who does your machine work?

I am going to need a grocery list of stuff done to my engine. There seems to be one reputable machine shop in my area and the guy is a little too arrogant for my taste and he's slam packed. I can look over the arrogance but I'm also open to options if you guys have any. I'm in Virginia, 2hrs from Richmond, 2hrs from Pa. I need splayed caps installed w/align bore, .040 overbore, cam bearings, balance, etc. Who does good work in a Saturday's driving distance that isn't going to have me refinance my house?

Don't know how many miles you have on your engine, but you might want to compare the cost of a crate engine, that meets your desires, with the cost of having your engine, essentially rebuilt by either an arrogant (not easy to deal with) shop or a complete unknown.

At least with the crate, you would have a guarantee....something goes wrong with an engine that has been messed with by an inept machinest and or mechanic, you would be very lucky indeed if they stood behind their work if something went awry.

Modding a car, esp. lt1 costs money. If you don't have the bucks to do it right, don't bother doing it at all. JMHO

I had my engine machined for all the work it needed. If I had to do it over, I'd go with a completed shortblock from a reputable co. like Victory Racing. Just had too many headaches dealing with it the other route. Not to mention the down-time on the car.

yeah, i know theres a reputable shop here thats known for being good with LT1s, so i might go with them because they're cheaper and highly recommended by everyone, or just get a VRE short block

I think I'm gonna just get some small stuff done for now, I put alot of thought into it last night. I need to get it running again and do a shortblock later.
