I'm PLANNING on running 12s for under $1200.

So far: $150 + 30+ 100= $280 and hoping for 13.7ish.

Gonna throw in a stall and DRs and I'll have spent $1000.

3k stall - cutout - CAI - 3.42s and drag radials.

I agree with Bret and Rich, do some cheep power mods and lighten the car up is the cheepest way to go... I bought my car near new many years ago with only 24K miles on her, so my investment has been more then a few of you guys, but since it has been paid off for a few years now I have been doing more things to her... But as far as performance goes, I don't think I have more then 2500 in her, and even up until this season I had the stock 2.73 gear and was running high 12.6's in good weather, 12.8s in the heat. Adding the gears has got me down to 12.53 in April (hot, but not mid summer heat)...

Hell, even before doing the headers, exhaust, and rockers last year I was consistanly 13.1, and could have dropped into the 12's with pulling out more weight, but it was my daily driver at the time, and had maybe 1700 in performance mods. I would guess the most expensive mods I have are the tranny and converter, so take that out and you see I was being really cheep...

Buddy of mine put about 5k into a camaro and got it running mid 12s at 116, iirc. LE2 heads, LE1 cam, his bolt ons consisted of midlength headers and a catback haha. Good running car for what it was. Those LE2s are on my ride now

Ive got 2 friends, both brothers, who are going to give something like this a shot. they're looking for a $3000 automatic LT1 car, throw a stall in it, some ET streets they already have, and spray the **** out of it to try and hit 11s. I don't doubt they will as they both have mid 10 second cars on nitrous (a 10.5 cobra and a 10.7 LS1 TA) that don't really have much done to them.

ya can't really beat nitrous' horsepower per dollar.

Where can I find some of that lightness to add to my car and what is fair market value per pound? If I could get my Z28 down to about 2950, it would be a solid 10.90 car.

Weight reduction can be time consuming (scraping off sound deadener, for instance), but it won't cost you any money.
