Who reused their intake bolts?

I know I run the risk of snapping one but who here reused theirs?

You are pretty safe to reuse them as long as you use a torque wrench. They only go to 35 lb. ft.

Shoebox----the install guide I have (from Street Illusions I think) says first pass is 71 ft/lbs and second pass is at 35ft/lbs! So it's only 35 for intake bolts? I'm glad I asked!!!

Brad (from your tech page) what is 71 lb/inches?

Edit: Install intake manifold. Use of locating studs or dowels on one side will allow you to set the manifold on without wallowing it around and ruining the RTV seal in the middle. (9/16 bolts/studs with thread sealant on them- torque to 71 lb. in. first pass and 35 lb. ft. second pass. Follow the proper sequence for tightening)
It is generally recommended that you let the intake sit 24 hrs for the RTV to cure before you fire it up. That is one reason I have installing the intake first during reassembly. It can be curing while you put on the rest of the stuff. Some people don't let it sit that long and have been ok.

That has to be an error.. [first pass is NEVER higher than the second/final..]

71 in lb first pass. I learned the hard way mainly b/c i was tired and misread the specs. Tightening to 71 ft lb will strip the threads out.

Yes, Get a new TQ wrench. You need one 3/8s size that reads down to inch Lbs.

1 lb. ft. = 12 lb. in.

71/12=5.91666

~6 lb. ft.

My site has the torque specs correctly listed.

As always, Shoebox has great info.

My point is the dude still needs to get a new TQ wrench in inch lbs. His current one will not be accurate at the 6lb level.

That's likely very true. However, since the fasteners are not delicate and they will be torqued to a much higher value, it's not so critical.
