Why shut off egr and air pump
Hi I just spoke to Bryan from pcm4less, I told him that I have the 503 compcam with 1.6 rockers etc. He told me about shutting off the egr and air pump. What I want to know is why do these things? what are the benefits and drawbacks Thanks

AIR I would deffenetly get rid of.....cleans up the engine bay considerably. EGR is not really needed with the cam overlap you have now....heck lt4 cars didnt even have EGR. I got rid of both and easily pass emissions here in Ga on the rollers.

As far as visual inspection goes.....Ive never had any problem as long as the sniffer test was good.

Thats what i did. I got rid of both the EGR and AIR pump. except that i left both of them there. now that im not gonna worry about ever passing a visual inspection. i think that im going to clean up the engine bay by ditching the air pump. i think ill somehow plug the hoses so it kinda looks like its all there though .. hahaha .

i would ditch the pump but keep the egr. ditching the egr wont do a thing. besides, its sits in the back where you can barely see it. i think it will help in passing the sniffer also. now the pump is a "must ditch" item. takes up a lotta space and you can eliminate the wires and lines coming from it. not to mention removing the water pump will be A LOT easier since the air bracket bolts on infront of it. so when(if ever) the water pump goes, no worries on replacement
