Put good quality brgs in it (Clevitte H series) cam brgs also and a good balance. With attention to detail on assembly it should run sweet and long.

Can you elaborate more on your "too much spread unless the heads are
stock" comment. I have the 227 and like the idle a lot because there is
almost no lope. I would like to have my heads ported in the future and
will probably upgrade the cam as well, however, I still want almost no
lope. How do you approach cam selection with an LE 1 or equivalent head,
or possibly a bit more, when you want an idle like the 227. This is assuming
a 350 cube motor.

Like others have said, you really need a converter to maximize your gains. You're going to be slow off the line with the stock one with the heads/cam. You need a proper converter to put you in your engines powerband. But I still think you could probably pull off a 12sec timeslip with traction on the stock 'verter.

If you do make 300+rwhp, which you should, 12's are no problem.
My car with a slipping tranny and 264rwhp went 13.216 @ 104 and backed it up with a 13.245 @ 104.

In this cam there is 14* spread in the I/E lobes. They do this because Chevy has a weak exhaust port. When ya get the heads ported it makes the exhaust port more efficient and it don't need all that spread. Generally a 6-10* spread is all that is needed. If the cam has quick ramps ya can narrow it up without changing the overlap very much, which causes the "lope".
