Will i have heat with 160* stat?
I am trying to get rid of my idle surge and heard on another board that installing the 160*stat may get rid of it. (it is the right way to fix it:no, will it work: maybe) so how satisfactory is the heater in the winter time. I dont need it real hot, but enough to keep me from freezing by rocks off. I feel the stock heater is more than adequate, so what is 20 degrees less?

It's been cold when I go OUTSIDE in the morning at 5am. My car has a 170 stat. It warms up fine and I don't need to run the heater on high either. You should be fine with the 160. The only person who can tell the diff. will be the tree hugger who's standing behind you measuring emmisions during warm up on your car.

Well, my opinion will be slightly different from those offered so far. I don't know how cold your winters are, but the fact of the matter is that sometimes when it's cold outside and you get into the car, you want to be warmed up real quickly. This is possible with stock stat - just crank the heat on high and within a minute you'll feel comfortable, then turn it down.
With 160 degree stat, it can take a long time to stop shivering. Yes, it's cranking out hot air out of the vents. But it cools off quickly and takes much longer to warm up the interior of the car and your body.
As a matter of fact, when I was driving on the highway I had the heat on maximum, blowing at maximum speed - and I found that just adequate enough.
This had been my experience. I took off 160 stat because I found it too uncomfortable through Canadian winter. Which is no worse than what they have in New York.

Oh it was cold as hell inside the car. Didn't take that long to heat up. About 5 minutes and it was hot as hell.
I misread the question and thought you were asking if the car would run okay with the 160 stat in the winter, my bad.

I don,t have any problems until it gets below 10 degrees then it don,t matter what you have the heater set on your still gonna freeze.
The heater won,t ever burn your face off no matter what but its livable until it gets real cold.

160 thermo + winter = freezing your hairy bean bags off I have one and the winters are VERY cold, especially when you are on the highway or cruising the car cools down and so does the heat!!
