Windshield wiper arms

What is the best way to take the Windshield wiper arms off the car. Can I get away with a screwdriver, or is there a special tool. Thanks.

To take the full arm off all you have to do is remove the black caps on the bottom off the arm, where it piviots, and take of the nut that is enclosed underneath it off. Once you have the nut off all you have to do then is pry up on the arm to pop it off the splined shaft. Hope this helps.

When prying, Do NOT pry it against the windshield. Put the tip of the prying thing (eg large screwdrive/small prybar) Right at the base of the wiper joint. If you can get it right near the center pin that its bolted down to you should be able to get the wiper off with a quick and not too hard pry.

The wipers can sometimes be a real PITA to remove. They were seized up on my brother's '95 Z. There is a puller listed in the factory service manual that is made by Kent-More. We tried, but were unable to order one of these. A regular puller would not work without taking off the hood, which we didn't want to do. I finally made a puller out of 1.5" x 1.5" x .25" boxed tubing. You still need to be carefull with the windshield. We put a heavy beach towel over the glass just as a precaution.

So all I have to do is pry it up. I don't have to take it apart like one guy said? I just ordered 2 arms (the springs are shot in mine)

You just need to take the arms off, theres 1 bolt for each of the arms under the plastic caps. I just gave instructions on how to pry it up once the bolts are off...

If you do it right you don't even touch the windshield....
