Won't start, Codes flashing
I have a 93 Z28. It will not start and if it does it has to sit atleast 30 min. but then dies after about 10 sec. Well the codes that i pulled out of it is.
36 Distributor ignition system (faulty high resolution pulse or extra low resolution pulse detected)
42 Ignition Control (IC) circuit (shorted or grounded circuit)
46 Pass-Key®II circuit
Can anyone help me diagnose my problem?
Thanks, Daniel

Re: Won't start, Codes flashing
Pass key problem means the security system is preventing a start. Is the "Security" light on? Generally, that's a problem with the resistor pellet in the key.
The other two codes indicate an ignition problem. The DTC 36 Opti code may be a problem with a corroded harness connector on the Opti. Or the optical sensor in the Opti is a problem. But that won't keep the engine from starting.
The DTC 42 is very complicated and indicates a problem with the ignition system, that can involve the IC Module, the coil, or the Opti. There's a logic chart in the factory manual that steps you through the analysis to help you identify the source of the problem.
