XE 224/230 questions: There's 3 of them? etc.

Like anyone else, I'm trying to pick a cam for my car.

My basic setup will be:
383 6" rod stroker w/ LT1 heads ported by a friend in Ohio , Probably ported intake, Larger valves if worth it (swirl polished, undercut), ~10.5:1 compression, longtubes, Scat 9000 crank, 4340 rods, SRP flat top pistons. I don't plan on touching much else. Not for a while anyways.

Like everyone else I'm trying to determine if LT4 Hotcam KIT will do me good since I get the 1.6 RR's, or go CC305/306, or the XE 224/230...I've seen lots of good about all of them, but I'm trying to find more about this particular cam.

I see 3 of those cams at Combo Motorsports:

NCC-224HL
HIGH ENERGY
Comp Cams 224HL Camshaft 224/230 duration @ .050", .525"/.560" lift with 1.5 rockers, .560"/598" lift with 1.6 rockers. Excellent cam for 350 naturally aspirated cars, street/strip. $247.95

NCC-224XH
XTREME
Comp Cams 224XH Camshaft 224/230 duration @ .050", .567"/.584" lift with 1.5 rockers, .605"/.622" lift with 1.6 rockers. The most powerful mid duration Comp Cam available. $247.95

NCC-224XL
XTREME
Comp Cams 224XL Camshaft 224/230 duration @ .050", .503"/.510" lift with 1.5 rockers, .536"/.544" lift with 1.6 rockers. Almost as powerful as the XH but easier on the valvetrain. $247.95

Which one of those 3 are you guys talking about? It's a Comp Cams Cam? For reference, I can't find it on summit...

Wow really? I figured it would be 1 of the other 2, that one is the "tamest" if you will, it seems.

Doing my research, here's what I've come across:

CC305........220/230...114...510/510
CC306........230/244...112...510/540
LT4 Hotcam...218/228...112...525/525 w/ 1.6 RR's
XE 224/230...224/230...111...????

I've seen people talk about having the XE224/230 in other LSA's as well.

Emissions isn't a problem here, but being Military don't know what it will be at my next base. I'm not too worried about it, I'll worry when the time comes I guess

with a 383 you should really go with the xe230/236.

as for the 3 xe224/230s, the reason most ppl go with the smaller lift cam is because stock heads dont flow much over that lift. you pick the lift of the cam based on where your heads flow the best. so theres no reason to get a cam with lift of .700" when your heads max out at .600" lift or youll just be wasting money on stronger springs and lifters but making the same power as a cam with max lift of .600.

Here's another vote for the 230/236. I have it in a 350 with ported heads and I think it would be awesome in a 383. Very very streetable.

Hey Javier97Z28

I am thinking about getting the same cam you have the

NCC-224XL
XTREME
Comp Cams 224XL Camshaft 224/230 duration @ .050", .503"/.510" lift with 1.5 rockers, .536"/.544" lift with 1.6 rockers. Almost as powerful as the XH but easier on the valvetrain.
My question is what is your setup. DO you have stock heads. did you buy this with the cam kit that combination motorsports sells. How do you like it.

Reason I am asking is I am wanting to use this cam but I want some info first. I have a Bolt-on motor with 3:73 rearend and I am about to add Jethot's LT headers with a reprogramed OBd1 PCM from PCmforless. I just want to know if it would be ok with my setup.
Thanks for any help anyone.

i suggest you base your decision on the head flow. If you have high flow nubmers at high lift.. well duh

and you can get the 1.6 rockers from combo in their package as well

its a hot cam package with a choice of cams

Hey Trey,

That's what someone else suggested too. Get the heads flowed after porting and go from there.

I called combo about their package, I forget what's in it, but I think it's ~$589. I need a cam, lifters, roller rockers, retainers, locks, springs etc.
