I have not seen a good running 306 in a 350ish size engine....
I vote for a XE grind...

As far as the ET vs. MPH arguement, it all depends on what you want to do with the car. I still enjoy cruising down the highway in 6th at 1800 RPM and getting 24 MPG. IF I wanted a drag car I would have an automatic which would ET better.

You know as well as everybody else that the A4's launch much harder than the M6's that keeps you in the power band for a longer time. I made it to the track once this year with a new fuel pump and the street twin and only got 2" off the starting line when the driveshaft exploded. I am expecting 91-92 in the 1/8 on crappy ported heads which should get me real close to 12.0x.

And what are you talking about, the A4s launch harder? Take the number of rear ends the A4s break, they do not launch harder...the M6s should be really launching hard, 5k+ launches are easy, I could not launch over 2k, not much hitting at 2k...but let me leave at 5k!!!!
Good luck to everyone and keep in on the track!

keep in mind marcin is going to lose a good amount of MPH when he starts to hook. Top end cars can really rack up MPH when they dont hood and get bogged down. Low end cars really dont change mph.

my friends 91 vette (350ft lbs in a 350 lb car stock ) ran .3 mph faster from 2.0 to 2.2 60 ft or somewhere in that range
My friends z06 has ranged from 112 on 1.78 60 ft to a 119 on a 2.3

well for some reason my car gets higher trap if i hook
I can ran low 13s at around 110 then once i hook 12.x the mph goes up to 112-113. I guess it has to do with the car boggin a little maybe? or just shifts...i dont know..from my experiance if i can get it to hook, my mph goes up
Marcin
oh yeah...hotcam cars can make lots of power as well. I have a friend with a 96 SS (hotcam, stage 2 LT4 heads/intake, big TB etc. He dynoed 381/342. Well at the track he runs slower then me, and on the street i am neck and neck with him.

All these buts and ifs, I play them too, my car is not running 100% and still able to pull 90MPH in the heat. This is what I am getting at, the HOT cam is pulling some MPH along with these larger cams, what gives? SURE, when I get the chance, this HOT cam will be coming out and a bigger cam will be going in but for now the HOT cam is doing very well.

I am not happy with my car's performance, I should be more in the 92-94 range.
As far as launching harder, I am talking about 60' times with the torque multiplication that you guys get out of the converter that is how you get such awesome ET's. If you want to leave at 5k get a bigger stall converter or a transbrake.
I guess I am still bitter over the money I spent on this car to see guys with stock heads and smaller cams running faster MPH than me. I know my ET isn't that great but that's based on my driving skill.

And I do know your pain on the $$$/return of ET/MPH one is to expect. I was rewarded every trip to the dragstrip with better ETs when I was a bolt on car, now, every trip is a wish list, starting with not breaking and then being able to drive it home. Until i get a trailer, the fun of racing is diminished....oh well...
