Which year LT1 would you buy???

What's up with the hardened pushrods? I don't think the pushrods are much better than a 97. That's not a major selling point. Why would GM put crappy pushrods in a LT1. It has to be good! Mine are still like new with 137K and still going strong.

my 93 is a bitch to find parts for sometimes. if you are going to get a new one why not go with a 97? that PROM isnt what its cracked up to be because where as i change my chip totally you can just as easily tune it with a handheld tuner. my car requires a new chip every time i want to make adjustments.
just make sure you get a car with a vented opti-crap. ive never had problems with mine, but im sure down the road ill need to replace it. btw, does anyone know if i could replace it with a vented one? is it possible to throw that piece away and get a new distributor?
Mine had 60k when i bought it last fall
excuse me, but what is OBDI is that upgraded computer?

I like my '93 a lot and have had several compliments on the interior, but if you are looking for something with less than 75k miles, It will be tough to find a '93 with that low of miles, and if you do find one with under 75k original miles on the clock it has most likely been taken care of and barely driven.

The 93s have forged rods and hardened push rods. Plus the speed density reacts faster. Thats why the serious race cars are speed density. Less parts to have to upgrade and the chip burning for custom is a lot cheaper and get free retunes as you add mods.

Why not go with a 97 and get the most current up to date parts. Plus you get 10 more horsepower right off the bat. The interior is nicer and you get the digital mileage WOW yahooo! If you get a 30th anniversary special edition you get white leather and it is awesome! I love my 97 and would not trade it for any newer or older model. But that's just my opinion.

I'm partial to 94/95s- never seen the ses light except when I'm starting the thing. obd1 is good for tuning, stuff can go out of whack and the computer won't freak out.
However, I would take a 96/97 SS over the previous years, just because I love the way the LT1 SS models look. Not to mention, a 96/97 SS is starting to turn into a real collector's item since there were far fewer of them than the LS1 SS's.
93: Hardened pushrods, no MAF, crappy chip, sealed opti
94: Hardened pushrods, obd1, sealed opti
95: Hardened pushrods, obd1, vented opti
96: obd2, 2 cats, vented opti
97: obd2, 2 cats, vented opti, newer interior
There's pros and cons for every year, so it's really up to you. Every year is a good year if you think about it, they all came with LT1s.

You've mentioned some very important things...'93's are speed density, which make them more forgiving to modifications.
I love the fact that I have a replaceable PROM. I just sent my information to PCMFORLESS and they sent me a chip. I plugged it in and went 12.0's with a stock bottom end, small cam, and mid length headers @ full-weight.
The 700 transmission in a '93 is a little more easy to modify because it's not computer controlled.
...Real Chevrolet "pink" rods
Everyone can argue about vented opti's, but my original was still working fine at 94,000 miles when I swapped it for "preventative mantainance" when I put the cam in. The fact made even more astounding when you consider it had been drenched when my water pump went, and when I had the car detailed once. I "drove" the spit, sputter, miss, and backfire out of it. The next day, the car went 13.1 with a completely untouched engine with exhaust manifolds...This happened the night before I ran the GM High Tech Performance "bolt-On" shootout at Englishtown. My soaked UNVENTED opti recovered enough on it's own to make me the 9th quickest "bolt-On" LT1 in the country that day...
OK, so I don't like the yellow guage numbers/letters

The 93's are plenty durable. I've got two of them, one on a stock bottom end with hotcam and heads, the other getting a fresh 355 (detonated on the dyno and crushed some ring lands) after my heads/224/230 build up. Even with dropped compression on two cylinders, it was nasty fast. Neither has EVER left me stranded.
I wouldn't say that "GM fixed everything they messed up in the 93's." More like evolved as the 4th gen progressed. No MAJOR changes were made from 93 to 94.
Nice thing about the 93's also is that you can actually put to use an adjustable fuel pressure regulator.
Also, as for the tranny, the M28 was rated at 350, the M29 was rated at 400, the 94+ is rated at 450. My black car made 363 TQ, and is holding up just fine. It's going to make more than that this next time around, and I will have no fears of driving it.
