Your opinion on the XE 224/230 cam
I am looking to put the 224/230 cam with factory rockers (on a tight budget) in my 383 rebuild. I am a daily driver in my car and would like to know how how it idles and the powerband of the cam. Whatever bolt ons you have even if you have heads, please give me some feedback!
Thanks

IMO too small for a 383, even moreso considering you would be staying with 1.5 ratio rockers. I'm still stock displacement and it is far from radical in my application. More CI will eat more cam. I guess if you are going after mild on your 383 then it might be a good choice, but that being the case you could have stuck with a 350 and saved quite a few bones on the stroker.
Just my opinion but a stroker begs to *not* be mild.
Good luck with your decision.

I'd expect on a 383 the idle quality to be near stock and power band going to be influenced by what heads you are going to be running. On some good heads that breath as well as the cam will allow, HP peak around 5900 and very nice torque across the board. It is a very nice down low cam.

unless emmissions are a factor, I would go larger as well. I agree with Wile2K. FWIW, I would use AT LEAST a 230-236
s far as not being able to afford the 1.6 rockers, check with CMotorsports on their cam, spring, retainer, lock, and Rocker arm kit. It is less than you would think. If you have the heads assembled already, they have good prices on the rockers by themselves as well.
