Best of luck to you! I hope this is it. Did you buy a AC Delco unit or a JEGS?

Summit,
are there any tips or things to look out for?? I'm a bit nervous about lining it up the dowel in the correct slot.

It's not that bad... I have done it 5 or 6 times on my car. I could probably tell you which bolts go where just by looking at them. lol. just take your time and pay attention to what you're doing. you should have no problems.

Because the "O" rings on the tip are new/tight, even when it's lined up perfectly, it may seem reluctant to 'snap in' to fully seat. Be persistent in lightly but consistent pushing pressure to make it fully seat. If you're not sure it's lined up in the correct orientation, pull it back, look at it again and then try again. Don't give in the temptation to put some of the bolts in and 'pull it in' by tightening them. That could end with warping the aluminum flange or tearing a seal or otherwise ruining your new opti.

When I pull my opti off during a rebuild etc, then try to put it back on, I try to rotate the cams dowel to perfectly 6 o'clock or 12 o'clock, just for visual simplicity. Then I rotate the opti's target slot similarly to 6 or 12 and then start my insertion attempts. Put a thin film of oil on the "O" ring to help. Even then, it can be frustratingly resistant to your attempts. Above all, be patient!

Pull a plug wire, put it on a plug, ground it to the motor and have someone crank the motor. Meanwhile, you watch the plug for spark. If there's a spark, then you're probably okay and it's something attendant like SkiBumDreams mentions.

For those that didn't catch it. You may want to follow this thread.

More than likely it's been on it's way to "burning" the fuse the whole time.

After all how many "coincidences" can occur in the ignition system at one time and NOT be related.
