Driving school Question

I was thinking about taking the Track Time Inc. driving school at MIS this summer. Does anyone know anything about this company or course? I mean, am I wasting my money on this or will it be worth while? I've been driving muscle cars and f-bodies for almost 5 years now, not to say that I don't have a lot to learn, but I'm not sure if this will do me any good. Would apprciate any opinions anyone has on the school. Thanks

Thumbs up

The Track Time driving schools are EXCELLENT. You won't believe how much you can learn in a day or two there!

I did the school by Track Time at MIS this summer for 2 days. The instruction was good, classtime was good, but I feel the road course leaves a lot to be desired. Transitioning from the banking to the road course and vice versa is pretty violent. Braking from about 130 MPH to 50 MPH from the banking to the infield is also pretty hard on your car unless you've upgraded your brakes from stock.

If Track Time is doing a school at either Putnam Park (just west of Indy) or Gingerman (west side of MI) I would take either of those instead. You could also try doing a couple of NASA HPDEs at 2 different road courses for the price of one 2 day Track Time school. The OH/IN region has their schedule at http://www.racenasa.com/2003_schdule.htm . I did a HPDE at Mid-Ohio with them this year and loved it. The classroom time was weak, but I chose to skip some of the classes and spend some time riding in my instructor's car as a passenger. That was worth WAY more than classroom time for me.

Another option is to go to the Corvette Club school at Waterford Hills next summer. They usually hold it in June some time and it's only about $80 if I remember correctly. No classroom time to speak of, but an instructor will ride with you and show you the line and give you words of wisdom. The Shelby club also has lapping days at Gingerman and Waterford Hills. You can find links to some of the events by local clubs at http://www.dcscc.com .

You have a lot of options.

We need more F-bodies at these things. I'm always surrounded by Mustangs. Not that Mustangs are a bad thing, TurboLX.
