First time auto insurance claim question
Unfortunely last night i was rearended in the 98z sitting at a red light. the car was not totally ruined, but did some quarter damage and bumper cover/ structural damage. My question is when i turn this into my insurance agent are my rates going to increase even though i had nothing to do to cause it since its no fault? im just bummed that i think im going to have to pay for some other drunken fools mistake..
i did get a accident report on the scene ...
and i got an estimate for damages today and the passenger visited the chiropractor.. which is going to be also claimed on my insurance.
any insight would be great, since ive never made a insurance claim.
later,
Greg

No - your rates should not go up - Michigan law says that if you were hit from behind it is the other driver's fault. Mind you - I got around that general rule once.
You can sue for a max of $500 - and get your car fixed if the damage does not exceed the value of the car.

Ive talked to a few people over the weekend and they all said try and get the whole car repainted, because if they only paint the bumper cover and quarter that the car will never look right, has anyone went about this. im not sure if the insurance company will go fo it, i hate to have the car look 2 different colors a year down the road.
