I go to kettering right now. The structure of it sucks- the whole academic advisement and such. Teachers dont speak english- about 10%. 20% have a good accent, 30% have a small accent,, 40% speak english perfectly. I've taken 12 classes and 2 labs. One professor we wouldn't understand- and he got fired. Ive never had a problem understanding another professor.

Foreign profs are no suprise, at any school.

Classes are HARD. No two ways about it. There are your basic BS course, and then your core courses. And they are hard. My advice- and I learned this after 3 semesters- Go the library after every class and study for an hour. You wont get studying done in library unless you are in the quiet section.

Dont crack a book? dont give 100%? out the door. I was going through some REALLY tough times last semester and didn't study a whole lot. Let me tell you grades reflected it.

Class sizes are SMALL. NO teachers aids. Teachers always are willing to help. by the second week, every prof I have knows me by name. I kid you not. Then again, I am active and partisipate in class. They seem to know everyones name for th most part.

Biggest class I ever had was 60 students. other than that- they are all between 9 and 35ish. Yes, I've had a class with 8 other students.

Dont worry about a car. You dont need one. There are tons of people in the dorms with 4x4 trucks. It wont snow much durring your section anyway, you leave mid december. Jan-march is when we get pounded (a section). There is a tunnel to the academic building that is heated, you can go to class in shorts.
The new Mechanical Engineering building is so close its not even funny. I can throw a rock from the doors and break a window.

Kettering IS a good school. But only if you apply yourself. If you want to sit around and do nothing, stay home. you WONT make it, plain and simple. Everyone that goes to school here is the kid that coasted through highschool. If your average is below an 80 for 2 or 3 semesters strait- your *** is out.

Ketterings mechanical, EE and IE programs are rated very high.

My freshman I term i got 3 job OFFERS. work with your co-op managers, and dont be set of getting a job in Florida, prob wont happen. I never met anyone that couldn't find a job by sophmore I, never even heard of it!

Overall, its tough- but if you make it, you are SET. Its tough not seeing mom and dad all year except on X-mas and summer for 3 weeks at a time. Tough learning a whole class in 10 weeks. Work hard, play hard. simple as that.

My aunt and uncle work at GM, they always tell me how much a head start I will have when I graduate.

Ohh yea,
another big plus is that this school is like a giant frat. EVERYONE watches out for each other here and in the workplace.

The people you will meet (personally) is insane. Lutz comes to our school 2x a year- you might be able to meet him.
I've had dinner with GM program managers and execs like its nothing. We REALLY watch for each other.

A student ID card and Kettering sticker on your car is a get out of jail free card around here

money? please, the average senior here makes well over $20 if i had to guess. Thats almost $40k a year working year round. And we dont pay taxes aside from medicare and social security. I know freshman making $16.50-$17.50 an hour. Some companys like BD- you will make $15-$18k a term, but you will work 60 hr weeks

If you have any questions, shoot me an instant message. supacharged22. I'm probobly the youngest guy here going to kettering so I'm pretty familiar with kettering's rules and remember my freshman year well- aside from the weekends
