How much is GM discount on engines?

I was looking at costs of building a sbc and crate motors and such and the GM ZZ4 crate motor. I am wondering what the GM employee discount price is on a Crate motor? I know my dad bought some parts a few years back that he had to pick up from a GM wharehouse and show his GM badge, but he got them real cheap, does anyone know what the GM employee discount is on a crate motor?
Thanks in advance.

I have no idea. Chris says they wont do discounts where he works on GMPP crate motors anymore. What are you lookin for a complete motor? I know a guy that could build you a small block however you want it for about the same as what you will pay for a crate motor. Steven

i'll put it this way....i bought my 383 from SD. http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?act...tart&catid=514

still have the shortblock and all it's pieces if you want to have it fixed. cylinders were washed so they need to be machined. however it's a 03' block. i paid 3400 for last january and it's 200 cheaper now. i'd work out an excellent deal less the crank if your interested. unfortunately it seems the engine discount isn't that much.

Thanks for the replies, I don't have the cash to build an engine right now but I am just trying to price out how much one will cost in the future and what is the most economical way to go about the project. Unfortunately machining (block/crank) and having a shop balance the rotating assembly and such is so expensive.

it is and it isn't depending on where you go...........unfortunately this is an extremely expensive hobby. if anything save your money and drop a used ls1 in it.

Lately the discount price on parts is the same price on everything I have checked as www.gmpartsdirect.com . The only diference is one place you get hit with sales tax the other you get hit with shipping.

When you're ready to make a decision you can try Al Serra Chev in Grand Blanc. I know it's over a 1 hour drive for you but they are one of the few authorized Performance parts dealers and give you a good price. Ed Holmes is the parts manager for the performance parts section and will match any price Scroggins Dickey gives you if you ask him. The good thing about a crate engine from GMPP is that you get a one year warranty where a machine shop won't give that to you......Employee discounts on performance engines are gone. I couldn't even order a performance crate engine from the SPO warehouse 3 years ago. All the crate engine business is controlled by a select group of dealers it seems. But when you look at the price and warranty you're getting, it's still one of the best deals around.....

Call Brown & Sons in Flint. They are an AC parts place, that sels over the counter stuff.

Give them the part & when they look it up, ask them what your GM cost would be on that item.

I have never bought an engine, but I get all my other parts there at the price it cost a dealer to get that part.
