Looking for a place to get a decent fairly cheap paint job for the Z???

Car comes outta the body shop in about 2-3 weeks and I'm looking to get it completely repainted. I don't really have the $1,500 cash my body shop would charge me to get it done, which is even a good deal I think. The car would be completely prepped except head and tail light removal(since I'd probably have to drive it to the place). I'm just seeing if there's anyone out there to do a decent job or if they know of a reputable shop that could do it cheaper than my shop. Keep in mind my shop does an excellent job so I will be kinda picky, I just don't have that much cash right now. One more thing, the care will be painted black, so no fancy stuff going on.

Thanks,
Jason

Black and cheap, do not work with picky. Black is hard to lay down as it is, then you want to be picky with someone who will do it for less then 1500 bucks Earth to Jay.....WAKE UP

Actually it's:
Good - Cheap - Fast
Pick 2.

Some places do good work cheap, but good luck getting your car in, especially seeing as summer is upon us.

I know the original saying, but with paintwork, you only get to pick one.

Yea $1500 for a full repaint is an outstanding price if it's good work, i'm guessing by that price that it's not a color change?

You said that all of the body work is done, and the car is (for the most part) fully prepped? Maybe it's just me, but $1500 for just spraying the paint doesn't seem that outrageous, even for a good job. From what I'm told the actual spraying is the easiest part of the job, and it's the prep work that usually racks up the $$$.

yeah the best i could do would be at least that and then you would have to strip and prep the car.

if you can find someone to paint a car for 1500 and you know your happy with the results your insane to look elsewhere.....

by good work i'm assuming that your not changing the color and they are still doing the jambs, removing the trim, and anything else like gfx's, bumpers, etc. to get paint in all the right areas?

I wanted to say. I'm not unhappy with the price I was quoted from my body shop. I know it is a great deal. I just don't have the cash to pay for it that's my dilema. The car was already originally black, so most of the things like door jams under hood/trunk all that stuff is already black. It will just have a red quarter panel and a white roof. All the prep work will be done accept essential light removal since it will be driven to the place of paint like earlier mentioned. That is something I can do once I get to where I'm going. Also my main concern is getting the car painted atleast halfway decent so I can drive around for the rest of the summer with a vehicle that's all black instead of calico. It gets paid off soon so once I start saving the cash that is now put towards a car payment the upcoming winter will involve a new hood, spoiler, possibly ground fx, etc. Of course that will involve painting and then I will get a quality one done if the current isn't satisfactory. I know that I should just go out and get a quality one done the first time but it's just not finacially possible right now. I should probably clarify that cheap is the main concern. Matters of quality to me is that I just don't want it flaking off as I drive home. I know that cheap and quality don't go hand in hand so at this point I'm sacrificing a little shine and good looks for affordability. Thanks for all your help guys.

you shouldn't paint a car if you can't afford to do right....1500 is a pretty good deal if your happy with the quality. most shops charge at least that much and don't do such a hot job.

however, if they are doing all the little extras then it isn' that "good" of a deal. 1500 would be very easy to match if your just stripping some of the limited essentials and taping up the windows to spray a color.

i still say save your money and do it right, personally i'd rather spend an extra 1,000+ and have a great job then go through it half a@# but that's just me, good luck! i made some calls and no one i know will come close to that unless you do everything yourself and they basically just spray it.

if cheap is your main concern, then go to autozone, get some gloss black rattle cans and DIY!!. I did some of my old car's bumper this way, and it turned out pretty good. You couldn't even notice the trasitions unless you got on your hands and knees. But that was a car I was getting ready to sell and it was white, so it was pretty easy to match.

I had a friend that got his car painted at maaco. he did all the prep work and primer, and removed most of the lights. he only paid like $500 for a color change and it came out great. dont know how long it lasted, he only kept if for about a year or so, but it looked great for that time. no prob.s w/it. but Im sure all the maaco's are diff, so check around. go to the shops and look at the cars they are painting. see how there paint jobs are coming out. that should be great for what your looking for. Im thinking of doin the same thing here soon. good luck and let us know how it turns out when you find somewhere.

I have painted about 50 or 60 cars over the years and do them out of my garage. They are not factory paint jobs but look dam good. You allways get some bugs and dirt in the paint and have to wet sand them out. Then respray those areas. I don't have a scanner or I would post some of my old cars that I painted. They looked dam sweet. I sprayed my IROC at the shop at work. It was in a car mag a few months back. Everyone will tell you it looks very very nice. I have everything in my garage to do the work. I can't bake the paint but I us a hardener in the mix that works great. If you wanted to come over and do all the prep work I could mix and spray the car. It would run you $750.00 plus materials. If you were not happy for any reason we could work something out but I know you would be happy. It would be a few weeks before I could do it tho. Let me know if interested. You can check out my IROC paint job on my web page.
