LT-1 Vette or LS-1?

hey.....im in the market for a new F-body.but i just drove a 94' M6 Vette with every option,Bone stock, and 68,000 Miles. the thing drove great and felt really GOOD! power wise for 12k!.i know they were rated at 300HP LT-1 its a 1 owner car and an older guy had it (friend of my dads) its in very nice shape, and i LOVE IT! i have always loved the newer C4 vette's! 92-96. Or should i look for a ls-1? Trousersnake found me a couple sweet sounding rides but.....im talking about a Vette here! LOL what do you guys think? lets say.....i put in......4.10 gears,Drag Radials,Upper/lower control arms, and a full Exhaust i think it would FLY! tell me what you think! thanx!

opti spark? The opti spark is way over rated, its just like a clutch, they will wear out about every 100k...

I think that is what ripper was referring to that the OPTI's were basically junk. What do you expect,The internals are manufactured by Mitsubishi.LOL

If you end up deciding on getting a Vette, (Which is personally my choice of the two), then make sure you get a '96 with the LT4. Then you have a great platform instead of just a good one to start with when you want to add mods to it. JMO

i would go with the 96 lt4 vette but they are way too much cash! whats the diff between the lt1 in the vette Vs. a F-body? i know that the vette is ratted the 300hp and the f-body 275 hp ? did the vette have like a diff cam and intake or something? or was it just rated higher to keep the vette guys coming and happy? meaning....same Engine as the f-body but were just ganna tell you its more Horse! LOL

Thumbs up

The Vette had better exhaust manifolds and exhaust. I like the Vettes and had 2 a 77 and a 79. I like the C5 Vettes better than the C4. They are way easier to get in and out of. the 97 up have the LS1. I keep thinking about getting a C5 and may do it this spring. I am getting older and time is getting shorter.

I would definetely get the LS1 F-body, is an all around better car, they are faster, and more responsive to mods, they ride a helluva lot better, we just did a procharger, and LT4 conversion on a C4 Vette, and that damn thing was a squeek and creek mobile, rode like crap compared to my 98 Z, and my Z is by no means a cadillac.

You might want to check on the insurance for both. The rates for one or the other might make up your mind for you

Talking go with the ell ess one!

I love the look of the C4's, but I would have to vote for the LS1 fbody.

heres why

The C4 is a BITCH to get in and out of, you will be much more cumfortable in an fcar.

The C4 that i drove felt really "stiff" and squeaked alot.

The LT1 C4 may feel torquey agile and fun at low speeds, but the first time you get your *** handed to you by a LS1 car on the topend you will really regret that purchase! Nothing is more emarrasing than seeing the amber hazards of a plain-ol Z28 as its walking away from your Vette!

In the 1/4 the ls1 cars mph like a bitch!

It depends what you want more, a weekend cruiser that will stay mostly stock and not see alot of "action", or a straight line beast that is a little more practical and comfortable for everyday use.

Insurance would be a big factor, that will prolly influence you the most one way or another.

I've had a version of all of the above cars mentioned and I have to tell you there really is nothing like driving a vette. I still miss my 95. The only problem is not the most practical car on earth, Golf clubs and Hockey bags always in the pasenger seat. If you are going for flat out speed and can't get the 96 LT4, I would say go for the LS1 f-body. If you want something that is really fun to drive, like being on a rail, and is still very fast, get the vette. All these cars rattle and squeek eventually and the vette isn't that hard to get in and out, you get use to it. I would have gotten a 96 LT4, but because of practicality reasons (kids!) I got what I did. At least that is how I justified it to the wife.

Insurance is always a factor.

I too was faced with this exact same decision. My dad has a 95 Corvette M6 that he was going to sell to me. I got a 2000 Camaro SS A4 instead.

I love my SS, but the Corvette is an awesome car too. There are only 2 significant negative aspects of the Corvette that I can think of. The Corvette interior is a bit cramped for me since I am a bigger guy. The 95 Corvette sound sytem absolutely sucks, it makes the Monsoon system sound awesome. Other than that, it's a toss-up.
