They have this new thing now. It's a box with a screen-thingy and you connect to this internet thing. The college has these pages where they post their catalog and schedules. You should give it a try. It's really modern. Oh and your tuition bills and other stuff can be found there too!!!

Oh, and the U's will "stay open." You'll just pay more for the privilege, that's all

I don't mean to take this thread totally off track, but you guys (not Scott) bashing Granholm need to pull your heads out.

Granholm is one of the best things to happen to Michigan in some time now. Granted, no Governor is going to please everybody, but you have to be stupid to think that what is going on with the budget right now is her fault.

If you want somebody to blame, blame that fat pig Engler. How is it that we go from having a budget surplus before he was elected to being almost a BILLION dollars in deficit by the time he left??? Hell, he probably ate the surplus by the looks of him.

Worse than Bush, don't be a dumbass. What do you expect ANY Governor to do when in this situation? The money to balance the budget isn't going to be handed to us, and we all have to make sacrifices.

I suggest you do a little research and get your facts straight before you go spouting off about something you obviously know so little about.

stock98z, to answer your original question, it is illegal in Michigan to have tinted windows unless it is the back window(s) or you have a perscription from an eye doctor.

Stop blaming people for the deficit. Four years ago, everyone would have blasted the governer if he had said "screw the booming stock market, I forsee a need for a billion dollar war chest four years from now". In fact, they would have called him a crazy doom and gloom Y2Ker like pastor Dave Whatshisname from the Church with all the flags.

It's no one's fault. As for the present gov, at least she's telling it like it is, saying we got a revenue shortage that dictates we spend less.

There are NO PROPHETS in government. Most of this democrat / replublican stuff is simply team spirit, much like the U of M / MSU rivalry.

All I know is this: While the present governer was stumping around looking for an acting school, my candidate was farming on his dad's farm, attending young politicians seminars, and hunting deer during archery season. Posthumous didn't win, but Governer Granholm is at least doing what she can.

I hate to say this, but shes worse than bush......
She needs to cut other areas other than education. Some school districts are already talking of cutting down to 4 days school weeks.

When professors are threatened with termination if they have to print a handout for class (they can't now, this is the policy at Western) it's getting ridiculous. My wife already has a BA from Boston U and a masters from Duke and is going to get a second masters from Western and has never seen anything like this current mess. I only have a BA in Criminal Justice and never experienced this either. And I did register online and also got my class schedule online

People are getting frustrated particularly in this area because of the education cuts. I understand that other fat needs to be cut, but some areas are having to let go of teachers (public schools) because they can not afford to pay them anymore. That is going to affect the level of education. I do think that the state tax break should be done away with as we can not really afford it at the current moment.

Sorry, Dan. As far back as 4 years ago, Fat Johnnie and his band of merry republicans were already fudging with the budget. They knew it was going to he11 in a hurry and were playing with "smoke and mirror" accounting practices to cover it up. Don't believe it........ it was all over the news but people didn't care..... then.

And Posthumous???? He should have been out looking for a pair of 'nads. Instead, Guv Jenny found them. Posthumous would have politicked the state into ruin..... and fiddling while Rome (Michigan) burned down. He would have been Betsy DeVos' lap dog.

Ok, then what was he doing to preserve said farm and archery hunting ground (natural resources) when he was Lt Governor under the Engler administration?

What about when they repealed all those protections for water air and wetlands in MI?

It's funny that you bring ol' Dick up, as my wife and I had a chance to talk to him at "Uncle John's Cider Mill" when he was campaigning the fall before last.

[Just for a bit of background info, my wife is a PHD student at MSU Fisheries and Wildlife department and her father was head of the MI DNR during the Engler administration. He subsequently retired early due to so much opposition from the "Englers"]

Anyways, when my wife and I were asking him questions about his potential policies and opinions on the DNR and other conservation issues, he just kept dodging the questions. One of the questions we asked about was why the DNR got split into the DNR and the DEQ (and subsequently laid off 1/3 of the employees) he got so wound up trying to BS his way around the question that his aide had to pull him away from us, lol.

Don't take this the wrong way Dan (and REALLY I mean that) I just don't think that Dick was as cracked up to be as he seemed.

EDIT- Lt. Governor

Yep, I almost lost my job over it. Our districts ADMINISTRATORs position got cut. I know granholm is doing the best she can to pull our state out of the hole we're in, but why cant we just lay off the construction for a while?
(sorry for off-topic)

anyway welcome to MI, hate to say it, but you probably wont like it here in winter. Youll learn to hate salt trucks as well as other drivers real fast. Summer here is fun though, besides the crappy traffic scene.

He He He, I haven't seen a good thread hijacking like this in YEARS!!!

Anyway, welcome to the Lansing area. I, unlike a few, LOVE winter for what it is. It's a different world compared to summer. I LOVE doing these little all-wheel-drive snow powerslides with my Jeep, even though my wife STILL complains about it. I like sledding with my kids. I like walking out onto a frozen lake surface when it's ten degrees out, and listen to the ping ping ping of the expanding ice. I even enjoy the whirrr of my snowthrower when there's six inches of snow on the driveway.

Every year, just after the first real snowfall of the new year, I take off my shoes and socks (my kids do this too, now) and run through the snow in my back yard for a few seconds. Usually just a short 30 second jaunt, then it's back inside to dry off the feet, and have a hot chocolate.

As for the drivers, just give them extra space, and drive your car like it's a semi loaded with nitroglycerin. You'll be okay.
