Oil pump assembly

Well everything is going back together on my H/C swap. I got a Melling M155 pump, pickup, and driveshaft. Basically I'm looking for either a machine shop that can press in the pickup and set it to the correct depth or any tricks so that I can do it in the comfort of my garage. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...have to get the car on the road!

Re: Oil pump assembly

i have installed the pickup tubes with some gentle persuasion with a open end wrench that is just the right size to fit over the tube drive it home hittting the wrench with a hammer believe it or not its not that tight of a fit. you may opt to have the pickup welded to the oil pump housing though. as far has height of the pickup i like to see the pickup about 1/4 to 1/2 off the bottom of the pan. some people have different opinions on this..

Good Luck
Greg

Thanks I'll give the wrench a try. What method of pan to pickup clearance measurement do you generally use? Putty/Play-doh or another method?

As mentioned, get it welded just to be safe!
