Paging IrocSS85 Or Anyone Interested In Hearing How Bad My Car Ran Last Night

Okay, I did make it to Milan last night. I got there about 6pm and went straight into line since it was long. In fact, after every run I went straight back into line. I had to since it took about 45 mins or more sitting in line to get each run in.

Well, I have the NX System on the car now. I have to say the feel of the pull is/was great. I have a delay timmer on the car and on the first run set the delay for 3 seconds after launch. I thought it felt good, pinned me into the seat when it kicked in. Below is a list of my times, NOT HAPPY AT ALL.

First and best run of the night Nitrous Delay At 3 Seconds.

1.895 60'
5.124 330'
7.789 1/8 ET
92.22 1/8 MPH
12.05 1/4 ET
115.62 1/4 MPH

Second Run Delay Nitrous Delay At 1.5 Seconds:

1.856 60'
5.10 330'
7.80 1/8 ET
90.88 1/8 ET
12.11 1/4 ET
114.56 1/4 MPH

These were the two best runs out of 4 I got in. I tell you I am so confused on this one. Last year I ran a best of 12.2 at Milan with no Nitrous. I had the Head & Cam and a computer program (Redline was 6600rpm). Now with this year I get the above times. I need to see what size nozzle I have on the NX System. I thought it was a 100Hp Shot.

Here is a question I would like someone to answer. When I had the new Nitrous system installed I had the computer reprogrammed. The cam I have in the car has a redline of 6600 (MTI T1 Hammer Cam). My redline on the car is now set at 6000 rpms (when reprogrammed went from 6600 to 6000rpms because of adding the nitrous system). I have heard it's not safe to run the nitrous at the 6600 redline my car used to have set. So, How much time am I losing on the car by having the 600 rpms pulled out per gear. Considering I use all of 1 & 2 gear then go to about 5000rpms in 3rd. I would figure I am losing a lot of time because of this redline adjustment on the car? Can anyone give me an accurate guess on how much slower the car is because of this extra 600rpms that have been pulled out? Also, would it be safe to put the 6600 redline back with a 100 shot of nitrous?

Thanks for any help I can get!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bill,

What are you using for a delay timer?

also, what are you using to rev limit? the pcm? if so BE CAREFUL..the pcm limits by pulling fuel. Hit the rev limiter with the juice on and BOOM!

I agree with dave on this one. I'd bump shift points by 200rpm at a time and see what happens...

First thing is to EXPERIMENT! You'll have to go to a track that is less congested. Short shifting sometimes HELPS cars ET better, but... you don't know until you experiment.

New combos can be hard to work-out sometimes. I have nowhere near the cam you do and my car ****s in the 6200-6300 range. Big cams DO however work better on top! (consideration)

So, you don't see any problem running with nitrous in the 6500-6600rpm range?

I don't know why it would be any less safe then at 6000rpms. Do LS1's get into Valve float problems?

Thanks,

bill, who told you not to run the eng. to 6600 rpm w/spray? and even better question, who changed the shift points on the car to 6000 rpm? Im goin to assume you changed the shift points at WOT to that right? you have something to deal w/most people dont have to since they can change the gears manually when racing. most people would have left the rev limiter high, and shifted earlier, but you cant really do that huh? Id guess your losing ALOT of ET due to this. Im no nitrous guy yet, (I still didnt fin. the install on my Iroc)but Id think youd be fine returning the shift points to 6600 rpms and to try to be safe mix in some race gas at the track. maybe you can get them to let you experiment w/diff. shift points. let me know next time you go cause maybe I can tag along and set up my tech II to take a snapshot while you make a pass. that would let us go through the data sensors after you shut off to look for O2 readings and knock sensor activity. didnt you get into the 1.7's sixty foot last year also? if so there's a couple tenths right there. do you know what psi you had in the botlle before each run? if you were low on press., then youd be running rich and not making full power also. it should be around 1050 to 1150 psi I believe. also, it was very humid that night which didnt help anyone make power. just some thoughts.

another idea, maybe your tuner can take out some timing above 6000 rpm to help the eng. live longer on spray? but ofcourse youd be losing power at high rpm when not on the spray.
