Yeah, I'm not hoping that it does either. But I've heard a few rumours (just "talk") about having a 2 tiered system, whereby people who can afford extra health benefits/coverage, can opt to pay premium rates to have elective procedures, surgeries, etc., performed in a "fast-tracked" way. Instead of having to wait for the "system" (you will eventually get looked at / treated, but it could take awhile) you can pay a private doctor or clinic for the MRI/cat-scan/ultrasound/non-life-threatening corrective surgery, etc., that would otherwise take months to get.

Sounds like an un-fair advantage on the one hand, but on the other, if people are willing to pay, why not let them? But because of our laws, all doctors are obligated to work under the gov't rules. SO if you want to pay for "quick service", we go to the States! (thus the argument to allow a 2 tier system in Canada, and keep the money and doctors on our own side of the border). Somebody in our gov't doesn't have the ***** to make such a bold decision though .

...also, this is the same reasoning (doctors/nurses forced to work under gov't) that sees many of our medical professionals seek careers in the US of A instead of here in Canada ... they're just going where the money is.

Keep in mind Canada only has about 33 million people, here in the US we're over 300 million. The US also has 500,000 people being shot each year. Canada has as many shootings in an entire year, as the US does in a day. If everybody that needed medical attention got it for free, our hospitals would be packed, and nobody is going to go to school for 8 years to work in a hospital environment treating sick and injured people for a low wage. The cost of medical supplies, medication, and doctors would be too great.

Not to say the govt. doesn't squander most of our money, but free health care in this country just isn't feasable for everybody. Perhaps they could come up with another system, which included health care for people who weren't offered insurance, but it was select health care, provided by the govt.

And taxes in America are nothing compared to other countries. Try living in London. A lot of people pay close to 75% of their paycheck to taxes. We have it extremely easy.

And unless you're one of the richest people in the country, you're not in the 30-35% tax bracket. I'm sure you're talking about what comes out of your check each week. I'm taxed roughly 30% each week, but when tax times comes around, I get a big chunk back. I'd say after all refunds are handed out, I only paid about 18% to taxes. But that includes social security, medicare, etc... Money you'll never get back. Other countries wish they could enjoy our benefits and lifestyle and pay the same taxes.

The sad reality is that both countries could provide free healthcare with the money they waste on stupid crap.

With respect to 2 tier health care in Canada, I'm all for it. It does 2 things - removes one person from the public line and can also put additional money into the public system if it is setup correctly.

Well let's see. MI tax and SS 1 & 2 = 14% and I'm in the 14% federal tax bracket after all possible deductions are made. That's 28% off of the top then there's a 6% sales tax plus around 40 cents per gallon gas tax plus property taxes which equal about 4.5% of my wages. It's pretty easy to spend 30-35% of your incime on taxes. And I'm nowhere near rich.

I was referring to income tax. All of those other taxes are dependent on how much you spend. If you don't want to blow 35% on taxes, use less gas, live in a cheaper neighborhood, etc... A lot of people in places like London have to work out of the country to escape the taxes. There is a man that lives in London but commutes 4 hours on a plane to China, because if he worked in London and lived there, after the 70% or so they took out of his paycheck, property tax, etc... He would have nothing. He would literally work for nothing. I'm not sure of the details of his schedule, but it's what he chose to do as an alternative to working in London.

People in this country like to complain, even if we had everything we complain about now, there would be something new that they wanted. This is the best place to live, period. Go stay in Mexico or another country like that for a month. Once you step onto this American soil you'll be kissing the ground.

We're very spoiled here. Think about the little things. You need a gallon of milk or some bread, or you're a female and you wake up in the morning and you're outta tampons. You drive at the most 2 miles to a store and get everything. Try doing that in a place like Mexico. She better wipe up good and pack some napkins, because the nearest store is likely to be OUT OF STOCK

I love the United States

Canada is much the same, except you don't have to worry about being shot on your way to the corner store, eh .
