Transfering from Delta to MSU ??s
Ok so here's the deal.....
I'm trying to transfer from Delta College in Saginaw, MI, for those who dont know, to Michigan State University.
I'm having a ton of trouble getting classes to line up and neither school has really answered my questions to their fullest.
First up, i have 13 credits from high school(AP chem and calc)
I am enrolled in 13 credits currently at delta(first semester)
I was told that if I wanted to transfer 42 or more credits, then I need to apply directly to the college of engineering at MSU. If i try to apply to the college of engineering directly, there is a maximum of 15 spots available to transfers into ME.
So I am attempting to stay under that mark so I can just apply to the university and apply to the coll. of eng once I'm there.......
So for next semester I'm looking at a max of 15 credits, 6 of which i need to dedicate for english, 4 for math, and 3 for history, but I was told I needed a BioSci or an ISS class before I can transfer, but that would put me over the magic # of 42.
This is probably super super confusing for those who don't really know..... but I would like some help.
If anyone has experienced this, or something similar, I would like to get their feedback, or if you are knowledgable on msu transfer admissions.
Thanks
Rick

Rick:
Have you been here?
http://admissions.msu.edu/transfer.asp
I know a transfer counselor, Alex Torres. Here's his info:
(517) 355-0333
torresa@msu.edu
Give him a call or email and tell him Randy Bell gave you his name in the hopes he could help you out.
Give me shout back if you still need help.

Well I've at least attempted to see everything that there is to see on their website. Just doesn't quite have what I'm looking for.
I tryed calling that number a while ago to actually talk to Alex, you are the third person to drop his name as the person to talk to, kinda funny. But it was just a general office, and maybe the lady that I talked to was not the most bright. BUT I will try again...
I have a meeting with some district chair at Delta on Friday, and my teachers have actually been giving me a lot of help. My other teacher is attempting to set up and appt. with the head of counseling, but we'll see how that goes......
Still would like to find the one soul out there that has maybe done this exact transfer before ......????

Cuz I bet CMU's Engineering program is amazing right????
I have Lake State or Tech in the back of my mind as well. And if that doesn't work, then maybe SVSU.
On the agenda for the Z is plugs and wires for tonight/tomorrow, think that they are original, just assuming. I have an odd stumble that is probably a fouled plug, you can make it go away, or make it come back with RPMs....
But for now my Calc II paper is calling my name, yeah that's right a paper due in calculus!!!

If your GPA is good enough, I don't see why any more credits would be a problem. However, I transferred in 1993 to MSU from Delta, with a total of 68 credits. As it turned out, MSU capped the transfer at 60 credits, and I have to re-take an additional set of 8 general ed credits my senior year.
I transferred from the Delta pre-engineering curriculum into the MSU college of engineering's Electrical Engineering program. I got my BSEE in 1995. It was well worth the time and money! You'll like MSU's college of engineering. Unparalleled access to your professors when compared to other big ten schools.
Best of luck, and the more F-bodies here in the Lansing area, the better, I say.

Yeah, I just wanted to avoid transfering directly to the college of engineering, with a max of 15 spots available for transfers into ME. I wonder how many people would apply to transfer in for ME?? I'm now nailing down the curriculum that I need to be taking to set me up correctly to transfer in........
Dan-- What was your GPA when you transfered??
That is all for now besides that the plugs i just changed didn't help my odd stumble.....

U of M used only the transferrable credits from my pre-engineering certificate, and that GPA worked out to be a 3.6. I was accepted to both engineering programs and chose MSU because of the peer support structure that the college of engineering fostered, as well as the ratio of students to instructors. In addition, the accessability to the professors was much better at MSU, so that if you were having difficulty, you could get assistance straight from the prof, and not necessarily a student teaching assistant.

I am from Adrian, which is in south MI. I will be graduating from SVSU this December with a math degree.
Anyone else go to SVSU?? I know there are a few Z28s around campus, just curious if any of them are on this board?

I was attended Delta from '83 through 1986, when I joined the USAF. I was Delta's lone computer service technician at the time, and had my own office in the "H" wing. SVSU was pretty small back then, but really started growing in the late eighties.
Sorry about the length of this message - It's probably a thread hijack, but I do like to tell my old boring stories, sometimes!
I do have a good friend that works for SVSU's computer department and he owns a trophy-winning 1969 Pontiac Firebird. However, I don't think he frequents CZ28.com
