E-Bay scam

I've been bidding on a Alpine IVA-D900 moblie multimedia center with that awesome 1.15 million pixel lcd screen from e-bay. A new one hear is around three grand and I can order one on-line for around $1,500.00 US. E-bay has a few for sale, my girlfriend bid on one for me and the guy ended the auction early, sent a e-mail to my girlfriend trying to get her to buy it privately. He must be trying to scam the money, why would he end the auction early with people bidding up his mobile dvd player? I smell a bigtime scam. Has anyone else ever had this kind of problem from e-bay or on-line?

i wouldnt be too worried, its just that ebay charges a percentage of the final auction price if it goes through, for high price items ive heard of pple doing this often. if you are worried then insist on COD.

I thought of that but you have to pay before you open it. Who knows what will be inside the box from a stranger?

That's a great idea. Hey Talos, I might have buyer for your M-16 air-gun. He said around 4 or 5 hundred tops but that's between you guys.

can't do COD country to country, only within the country, I would just use Paypal & if it doesn't go through deny it I've done it!

I'm still concerned about getting ripped-off buying off of ebay. They say don't send cash or to wire money. Then this guy posts 7 Alpine IVA-D900's for $999.00 US each on ebay. They retail for three grand up here. Now here's the kicker, he will only except money sent thru Western Union. He wants the money sent to Illinois but his phone number is an answering machine in Hawaii. My rule of thumb is if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. Scammers are always looking to take advantage of someone trying to save some dough. Bidding on another one the seller ended the auction early while the bidding was still going up? He e-mails us trying to sell it privately. Why can't people that sell on ebay just play by the rules?
