F/S: Tripped onto a nice DZ carb

F/S: Tripped onto a nice DZ carb
I recently purchased a 1970 Corvette and mounted on my intake turned out to be this carb:
I've checked and it has the correct front and rear metering plates. It ran my car like a champ, but since I just purchased I was going to rebuild the carb to get to 'ground zero' and my Speed Shop guy pointed out that this was an unusual caburator. I have another newer Holley that I'm going to rebuild for my car and I want to sell this one to pay for a couple of other parts.
I have an offer on the table from a guy that restores them and resells them on-line. He'll give me $350, but I wouldn't mind getting a little more. I have no idea how much more, though. I know I don't have a $1,300 carb, but some of the other ones I saw for $700+ were junk...rusty choke plates and missing linkage.
The whole thing is very original and clean. It is unmodified with a small bit of play in the primary linkage. We pulled the secondary bowl and it gleamed like jewelry inside. Vacuum secondary is original. All seems pretty nice.
Thoughts? Input? Offers? I'm all ears.
Thank you very much for reading.
Sincerely,
Keith

Hmmm. There's got to be some way to identify this unit to a community of carburated 68's and 69's where this is a required purchase for a true 'numbers matching' vehicle.
I know it is a great unit and I'm willing to part with it for a reasonable price, but finding the right person to purchase it may prove to be a little tricky.
Any suggestions?

Re: F/S: Tripped onto a nice DZ carb
So I have a 1969 factory carb that is needed for anyone to make a numbers matching restore to a Camaro Z28 302.
I come over to the most active Camaro Z28 forum that I could find and the two responses I get are "our cars are fuel injected" and "stay on your side of the fence".
Awesome, guys. Thanks for the help. Way to reach across the aisle.
Honest, I just wanted to marry up this carb with the right car.

I'd pay you $350 for it too. IMO unless you send it to be restored and then find the right person who needs it you're not going to get much more for it. If you're interested send me a PM.

Re: F/S: Tripped onto a nice DZ carb
I'm not a greedy person. At the same time, I wouldn't mind seeing if I could find the right person to purchase it. Given that it is functional (drove my 1970 Vette just fine until 2 days ago), complete, un-modified, and in pretty darn good shape, I would like to think I could get $600 for it.
I'm not destitute by any means, but I also wouldn't mind for my car to 'pay for itself' in a manner of speaking. I have the original 1970 seat belts for my car that I don't plan on using and there is a huge market for those...also to the tune of $600. If I can buy a new double-pump carb, new seat belts, new sidepipes and inserts, and get the engine tuned up for the money I make on these couple of parts, I'd be a happy camper.
Thank you Mr. 86IROC for your thoughts. I will try and post in those more focused forums. And I may post to eBay. There were several other DZ carbs on there, but they were either incomplete and/or rusty for $800 or fully restored and perfect for $1,500. I would like to think that my clean and functional example should fetch what I want for it.
Very sincerely,
Keith

Re: F/S: Tripped onto a nice DZ carb
You are most welcome. It seems nowdays that - when you want to sell something, it's not worth anything according to the bench racers. But, when they are selling - it's worth it's weight in gold. I do research, set a fair price, and let it ride. And I always sell the items without sitting on them for eons. Just have to find someone who is serious vs. a wishbone. The guys that buy carbs for $350 or less, resto them, then sell for over $1K... highway robbers. There isn't nearly $1K in labor and parts. They are making a killing and hurting the hobby IMO.
