FS: Nice 383 LT1

Re: FS: Nice 383 LT1
A splayed setup on a original 2 bolt block is the most optimal setup you can have for an oem block. it does nothing but strengthen the block and mains by spreading the load NOT weaken it, plus the cast iron cap is like glass compared to a robust steel cap like a pro gram engineering one. you and your builder are not making a good case for your sale with those statements. launching has very little to do with 2 bolts or 4 bolts living, its about the internal forces applied on the caps which a high powered street car can be just as hard on if not more then short bursts on a 1/4 mile with prolonged exposure to hp, varying rpm and loads. there are alot of knowledgeable guys on this forum, you aren't fooling anyone but yourself with statements like that. i am in no way trying to slander you on this but just trying to pass some knowledge and educate on it, take it as you will

Re: FS: Nice 383 LT1
I am just saying what my engine builder told me.
He has 35 years of experience building engines, and if he tells me I don't need 4 bolt mains or 4 bolt splayed mains, then I believe him.
I especially believe him because I had cash in hand to pay him for doing 4 bolt mains, and he declined to take my cash and Just smiled and told me this was unecessary and told me to save my money and buy something else I wanted. Not to mention, I've known him for 12 years and I have lived in Casper for 12 years, and I would take my engine to Jerry before anybody.
I know there are knowledgeable guys here. I choose to trust a guy who has built engines for 35 years and who is also a personal friend.
And Jerry doesn't care whether I sell the engine or not...I have already paid him for his work.
I was hoping to sell the engine to someone on here but whatever. I'll probably end up selling it to someone locally, most likely.
So be it.

Re: FS: Nice 383 LT1
I don't go by what I hear people say on forums. I look into things myself. There is a lot of hearsay out there about everything.
I always check out what people say about engines or anything else, by calling professionals in whatever field is being addressed.
I encourage you to call Jerry at Jteam and talk to him, if you have questions about this engine.
He knows a heck of a lot more about engines than I do.
Jerry's phone number: 307 237 0939
I may decide to say screw my bills and just keep this engine and then race any one of you guys with a 383 and see what happens he he he. If I lose, it'd probably be the fault of the 2 bolt mains LOL

Re: FS: Nice 383 LT1
for a buck ill take it but i agree with everyone else, splayed is better. when you put the bolt out at an angle like a splayed cap is it makes it stronger, its something i learned in a bolt and fastener class i took. if your keeping the car under 450hp a stock cap 2 bolt is fine, you start getting over 500 and it gets iffy... in my info comes from an engine builder named rick lapouttre, and many rosebushes (the rosebushes used to own BeCool radiators). but if you ran good with the motor kudos!

Re: FS: Nice 383 LT1
Well a guy could buy this and then pay to have it splayed and 4 bolt mained.
I dont want to put more $ into this just to sell it.
The rotating assembly alone cost me $2,000. The machine work on the block cost me $1200. Add the cost of the timing set, the bearings, the studs, the oil pump and pickup, the assembly cost, etc. Stuff aint free!!

Re: FS: Nice 383 LT1
bump--I paid Jerry to use the Pro-Gram main cap girdles along with the studs for twice the strength. He is machining the main caps down just a little and fastening the Pro-Gram girdles over top of the main caps.
Price reduced to $3750 for this short block.

Re: FS: Nice 383 LT1
$5.00 takes it. You save over $4000.00!!
What I paid:
$2000.00 for the rotating assembly
$1700 for all machinework and pro-gram main cap girdles and assembly of the shortblock
Over $200 for the new oil pump, bearings, and studs
Shortblock will not include new timing set, which cost me $275.00
If you want the timing set, it will cost you $275.00
This stuff aint free folks.

Re: FS: Nice 383 LT1
I wish you the best with the sale, if I was ready to buy this would be exactly what I would be looking for, the rotating assembly you have in this is the one I was thinking about getting, and havign it already balanced and assembled is a score for those parts alone. If it doesn't sell hold onto it until after x-mas, well mid Januaryish, and I will be in the market then...
