AMSOIL---Just a polish?

Hi guys. Long time no see.

Well I just got a new car and it's in really bad need of a detailing. The paint is so abused that it has one of the griddiest feels to it I've ever felt. And it is very dull. So this weekend I'm gonna get crackin on it. But I have a question. I just bought a bottle of AMSOIL polish. I'm confused as to whether this stuff is supposed to be used strictly as a polish or if it does the job of both a polish and a wax. I know that the general idea of a detailing is---wash-claybar-polish-wax. I just called AMSOIL and the guy didn't sound too sure. He told me that he was pretty sure it was supposed to be used as a stand alone product. Anyone have any idea if I should do this or if I should add a coat of wax over the polish? Will the wax leave the polish useless or unnecessary?

That's a directory that tells a bit about the polish but not much. Sorry.

I hand polished my friends door a week ago with the AMSOIL and it didn't do any miracle work in terms of "looks" but it did leave a very nice thick and smooth feeling coat. But when I did it on a little part of my car it made the paint look much nicer but if you looked closer you could also see all the scratches it had on it. Any recommendations of what I should do this weekend? Thanks much.

I'm not familar with Amsoil polish but if you want to get out alot of that dull I'd suggest some 3M hand glaze (you can find it at most auto parts stores) then wash the car real good after you bring out the finish's shine more and apply your desired polish/wax.

Looks more like a wax to me, I would not use that product to correct any problems, I would use a dedicated compound like 3M Swirl Mark Remover part number 39009 after a good claying and then finish with a pure polish or pure wax with no cleaners or abrasives.

Nothing special.

Well. Used it today. My process today went like this......Wash.....Claybar......rinse with water......AMSOIL polish......Mothers Wax......Boy does the car look good! I gotta say that my paint was so nasty that I didn't think it would be capable of that kind of a shine. But it indeed met or exceeded my expectations. The best product of them all was the Mothers wax. Amazing stuff in my opinion. Just made the paint look good and feel smoooooth. The AMSOIL polish isn't anything special. It's more of a wax. It leaves a pretty nice coat but isn't anything special in the looks department. I'd believe that it would protect that car but it's not an honest to goodness polish as you guys mentioned. I'd probably get Meguiars professional the next time around....(I'm not ready for Zaino lol) So their ya have it. This was more of an experiment to see if AMSOIL could incorporated their magic into some of their other products. I still like their oil though.
