Smile Autopia forum status....

Well, for those that were regular members over at Autopia ( a great detailing resource), it looks like their forum will only be available for paying members now. I don't know when it will be back for those members, but for the "nonpaying" ones, I guess were shut out now. Oh well...fun while it lasted I guess, but they have to do what they have to do, ya know. So, since I probably won't be able to post over at Autopia any longer, here's my farewell to the wonderful members over there who made the forum what it was, and especially to the moderators (you know who you are) that made the forum a great place to be. The mods over there were some of the best I've seen anywhere, my hat's off to them, and I wish them all well, and the same for the member's too. Fun while it lasted.....so long Autopians.

BUT, on the bright side, I created something I've thought about for a long time, but never thought I could manage. I created my own detailing forum for anyone who wishes to participate. It's pretty basic for now, but if it grows at all, I'll expand it when that comes time. I think I covered all the basics, and yes, there's a dedicated Zaino Forum for Zainoers of all levels, newbs to veterans alike. Here's the link: In The Details I encourage everyone to either register and post as much or as little as they like or you can post anonamously (sp?) if that suits you. If you decide to visit, please read my first admin mesage before posting! Hope to see some of you there sometime!

Of course, I'll never leave this forum as long as I can help it! There's a great group of guys and gals here that are one of a kind and a pleasure to converse with.

See Ya!
MikeLS

Autopia was very strange, one minute their message board would crash and they would say they were moving their server, then they would say it crashed and would be up in a little while, and then BAM!!, they say you have to buy their "detailing book" (which I will not be buying) to go on their forums.

I have my suspicions why the forum is private now, but ya'll will have to guess why, same reason The Wax Shop shut theirs down a few years ago for those that remember that one.......

Yeah, I have my suspicions as well, but I don't want to jump to conclusions without many details. I have heard it won't be available for "paying" members until sometime late October, but I don't know if this is accurate, don't hold me to it.

I wish David would have at least let the community know before hand about such drastic changes so we could at least, for one last time, express our thanks and goodbys to the people there, who we'll likely not get to talk with again.

I'm thinking maybe they were getting discouraged by the size of the membership base and bringing it to a paid-only status would retain the small community feel like it was last year. Plus, I'm sure the forum was costing David a pretty penny to maintain and financial support is always helpful. Oh well, I guess it'll be more like a private golf club now, pay your dues or stay out kinda thing! And, I feel it probably goes deeper than just finances too and probably has a little to do with their product sponsorship. Can't really complain though because it's their forum and their right to do with it what they choose.

Fun while it was there though!

I'm going to miss Autopia, was a great place for information on lots of products.

Just registered at your new BB. The web needs a good generic detailing forum. Hope everyone gets behind this and it takes off.

Autopia

Autopia will be back on Monday. Why don't people wait before jumping to conclusions that Autopia is going to be a paying members only site? Please get all the facts straight before posting.

I wouldn't have posted it if it weren't a fact. Don't be so quick to jump down someone's throat if YOU have not found out for yourself man.

Take a look here: http://www.autopia-carcare.com/forum.html

See the part about members only? I think I have the facts straight...most people already knew this anyway....

Having a bad day?

It clearly says you have to buy the Autopia detailing book to be considered a member:

"The autopia community forum is temporarily out of service. A new members-only forum is being built for all autopia book subscribers"

I am not having a bad day. It absolutely is not a fact and you drew incorrect conclusions. I hope you apologize to David or at least delete this thread.

OK, did you not read the autopia link I provided? That comes directly from David. HE wrote it so why do I owe him anything? I'm confused here! HE states it's gonna be members only! Just because it's gonna be back up Monday doesn't mean it won't be members only. Geez man read the link!

Do you think David would even see this thread anyhow? All I did was post info about that link, chill out dude.

Wait, let me make my apologgy.....David I'm sorry I posted YOUR link and info here. Apparantely some are having a hard time understanding what it means.

The link: http://www.autopia.org/forums/ is a bad link, I read that about 3 months ago. Since it was oringally posted the entire site was moved to here: http://www.autopia-carcare.com/forum.html

Rockster, you are looking at a very old link that probably should have been taken down by now. The new Autopia is here: http://www.autopia-carcare.com not at the .org site.

I give up. That is not an old link. The only thing I can say is to email David directly or wait until tomorrow.

OK, at the bottom of your link Rockster, where it says "Contact Us" and "Autopia" click the "Autopia" link. It takes you to the new autopia site (.com), not the .org site. So, click the forum page and what do you see?

Are you a member at Autopia?

I predict that tomorrow you won't see a flipping thing more than you do right now. Maybe I'm wrong, but I doubt it. The new forum clearly states it's for members only, who have purchsed the book. What's the big deal?

Dear Autopia Friend,

Thank you for registering to receive notification of the new forum. I expect to have the new forum completed by the end of October. In the mean time, if you have any detailing questions, please don't hesitate to drop me an email.

Yours in Better Car Care,
David Bynon

This is the message most are getting about the new forums. If there are apologies in order, I don't think they should go to David....
