Question car covers?

well i just bought a new car and i'm keeping it at my shore place until july (i go down there on the weekends) just don't want to keep it around here, the settlement date for the new house is mid/late july... anyway, i wanted to get a car cover for it, is there anything special i should look for? a car cover is a car cover right? i can just go to pep boys and just get the average joe car cover without doing any damage to my car? thanks.

EDIT: i just did a search on car covers in this forum, i still have a question though, does it really make that much of a difference if i buy a generic car cover for like $40 at pep boys compared to the $200+ custom fit car covers you all rave about? just wonderin, also it has been mentioned that they scratch your paint, is this true? do they cause major/noticable scratches?

Nope, car covers are not nearly all equal, you could go get a generic one but if it is windy, so goodbye to it as it will be long gone in the wind, they fit like crap.

Get a nice one custom fitted, and there are many materials, for your environment, I would go with the Noah material, Stormweave, or Superweave from the California Car Cover Company.

I don't like the idea of keeping cars bear the shore. Salty air KILLS exposed metal causing it to rust fast! I speak from experience. I went to Florida a couple years back. Stayed at a hotel on the beach for 2 weeks, and in those 2 weeks, rust developed everywhere on a 2 yr old car! It was a GM Van actually. The keyholes rusted up in no time, the mirrors and chrome around it. It was horrible. The rust stopped once we got the car home up North. And easily wiped away using some concoction of polishes.

I'm using a generic $40 car cover on my IROC, and I hate it LOL. It repels water for the first week, then it's as good as a blanket. And the windconstantly blows the thing off, even when tied down, it takes the corners off. If you get a cover, get an oversized one and fins a way to anchor the 4 corners.

No, custom fit covers will not be in stores, there are many F body vendors that sells custom fit covers. If you do have to buy a generic one, get the Evolution 4 material as it is ususally the best material available in stores.
