I use the Absorber also, and have been VERY pleased with it.
Here are my answers to your 6 questions....

1.) Before I use it I saturate it with clean water and ring it out. Ever so often I will run it through the washing machine when it gets too dirty.

2.) I store it in the tube it came in, until I misplace the lid, and now I store it in a zip loc bag.

3.) I use it when the car is still soaking and ring it out often. I seldom alow it to get dry enough for water spots to form.

4.) I usually used it folded in half.

5.) Generally a sideways motion.

6.) I use it on waxed or polished cars, and use it after every wash. I also use it even if I intend to add another coat of polish to the car.

I've been using a leather chamois for as long as I remember. I use it right after the wash so I can prevent water spots (always had black cars) I bought the Absorber once and was not please AT ALL. I don't know if I got a ****ty one or what, but it would pick up SOME water, but still leave streaks or tiny beads.

I'm hoping mine will work better next time since I've stored it in water. It worked so-so when I first used it.

For some reason when my Absorber gets dry, it turns as hard as a rock. Anybody know why and how I could fix it? Should I put it in the washing machine?

Yes. The directions say you can throw it in the washing machine.

Your supposed to keep the plastic tube it comes in (it comes damp from the factory) and always store it damp, you are not ever supposed to let it dry out, they will all turn hard as a rock if you let it dry out.

I, too, use the Absorber. I used a leather chamois last year and it started to break apart after just a couple of months. I got hooked on the Absorber after a friend suggested it. The material is a man-made synthetic and is no where close to breaking up after the same amount of time I've used the leather chamois. What it is composed of, who knows?!?! But it works, provided you keep it clean, moist, and in the plastic container stored. When dirty and very wet I've noticed it starts to streak. I throw it in the wash, by itself, after every use, and I avoid using it on the inside of the wheel wells, under the car, or any other area where it might stain or get very dirty.

I dont know about anyone else and if anyone wishes to enlighten me feel free, but i along with my cousin have had no luck with the absorber. he has a charcoal chevy short wide and i have a black z28. every time i use the absorber i get streaks. the wax on the car now is crap and is coming off as soon as i can find some Zainos to try, but even with the crap wax the leather does not streak my car maybe its because my car is black because the absorber worked great on my white camaro but it just wont cut it on the black. So if im doing something wrong that someone knows tell me but i hate the absorber.

I actually get a lot of streaking when using the leather chamois, but I think it's unavoidable to an extent.... :-/

Have noticed that it works 100 times better in absolute shade than it does with the slightest hint of sunlight though

I've used the Absorber for about 5 years. I like it, but it does not leave a streak free finish.
