You can get them at WalMart, Target.

The first one I ever used was the Mother's Clay kit. It came with a bar, showtime detailer (that you spray on to paint surface to act as lube.) and a sample of Mother's Carnuba Wax. How much it cost, I can't remember.

Clay is sort of like plastersine (sp). You lubricate the paint surface with soapy water or a detailer, and move the clay over the surface to remove impurities and old wax. How often to use, depends on how you use your car. I'm not really the guy to answer this question.

Hope this helps.

Jeff

Q: Where/What kind?
A: As Jeff stated, Mother's makes a good kit that is available locally at auto parts stores and discount stores. My local AutoZone just started carrying the ClayMagic kit, which is also a fine clay. Avoid the Meguiar's clay like the plague, it's simply not up to standard. If you want to mail/internet order clay, I'd suggest Zaino Z18, Erazer, or Pinnacle.

Q: How do you use it?
A: Check out this article:
http://www.erazer.com/prod01.htm

I use a capful of car wash soap (Zaino Z7) in my regular wash bucket as the lube. I use my wash mitt filled with suds to lubricate the surface and area I'm working on. Only do one section at a time, and don't rub the clay on a dry surface. Always use plenty of lube.

Q: How often to clay?
A: About once a year for a full claying is normal. Spot claying certain surfaces like the hood or back bumper are sometimes needed more often since brake dust and other grime seem to settle there the most. No more than 3 times max a year is really needed on the whole car. And, that's if your car is getting more dirty/soiled than average.

No question is a dumb question, that's how we learn.
