Question fixing scratches at home?

what's the best way to fix a scratch at home? i have one that is very thin, probably 1/16th inch wide, but runs about four feet along the rocker panel. can this be fixed some decent way with touch up paint or anything? i really dont want to take it to a paint shop if i can avoid it sense i'm selling the car shortly.

thanks guys

If it's too deep you will have to use touch up paint, if it's down to the metal it'll definatly need paint, or run your finger nail acrossed it and see if it catches on it, if it does you might be able to get it out maybe not, other than that i'd try some 3M swirl remover

yeah it's deep enough that it's going to need paint. long, deep, but not very wide...

If the scratch is on the ground effects piece, you could remove the piece and have it painted (it's down so low that a no blending would be required as long as the paint is right).

If you're selling the car, though,I'd just get the proper touch up paint, clean and paint the scratch (carefully..keep paint line small),let dry, then lightly wet sand and polish. This should look OK,since it is down so low.........

The touch-up idea works better on solid,non-metallics,like black, white, red, etc.

thanks mike,

guess i'm lucky that its a bright red car. it's on the rocker panel but being a formula its not ground effects that can be removed.
