Talking How to clean burn oil off of headers?

Well, my dipstick tube had a hole in it and now my passenger side header has tons of burn & caked on oil. The headers were cermanic coated with the 2100* coating from PBM. Is there a way I can remove the burnt oil off the primary header tubes without damaging the coating? Thanks!

Difficult to say with ceramic coating. Some coatings can stain easily. Have you called PBM for their advice?

I did help a friend remove burnt on oil off of some SS headers. We used rags wrapped tightly around the tubes and held in place with zip ties (they were handy) and then liberally soaked them with carb cleaner. Left them sit all day. Sprayed more carb cleaner on them every few hours to keep the rags wet.

This process softened up the caked on oil and carbon and it came off with some elbow grease and the above mentioned rags. A little metal polish and they were back to normal.

I'm afraid this method might cause more staining of the ceramic coating as the oil and carbon dissolve and migrate around.
