Natural waxes generally can't be layered in the same respect as a pure synthetic sealant. Since natural waxes use mostly oils and/or silicones for the shine, applying multiple coats of the wax basically means you're just removing the current oils/silicones and replacing them with a fresh coat. Oils can't layer to increase the shine so you're either moving them around or replacing them by waxing multiple times. Now, you can get a buildup of carnauba on the surface, but the carnauba itself is not what creates a shine because carnauba is actually a dull substance by nature. (Thus the reason they add oils/silicones to make it shine). So, trying to "layer" a carnauba wax like a synthetic just doesn't work IMO. Plus, generally all carnauba waxes are mostly solvents and these solvents will remove most of the oils already on your car and probably some of the previous wax too. Many "pure" carnaubas use a "heavy naphtha" in the formula and this is nothing more than a strong solvent.
Synthetic polymer products that are nonabrasive can layer or stack on top of each coat. A good synthetic, like Zaino, contains no oils, but instead it is made of polymers for the shine. these polymers form a "chain-like fence" structure on the paint. Adding more coats just builds on top of what's already there to increase gloss and most importantly protection. Plus synthetic products generally outlast natural products by several months, and they will offer more protection too. The whole reason synthetic products were created in the first place was to deal with the shortcomings of natural carnauba products.
Synthetic products IMO work best for those that need greater protection than natural waxes can afford. They work very well on daily drivers for instance. Not everyone needs the best protection out there, it just depends on your crcumstance. So, many still like the natural waxes, and that's fine.
If you've struggled with natural waxes for years on a daily driver to keep up the shine and protection, you'll really appreciate the benefits of a synthetic. I personally think that some folks that start out using synthetic products that have not been used to waxing their cars over the years with natural waxes sometimes don't truly appreciate why products like Zaino were created and take it for granted. For instance, the people that say "I've never waxed my car before, but I want to use Zaino or some other syntheitc" sometimes don't see the full benefit from these products. Of course, it's fine that they want to use great products, but they won't have the same appreciation for the synthetic as those that have waxed for years with natural products and became fed up....at least that's just my opinion.
