Re: Not happy with zaino!

Zaino is a tough animal to master. It will work with less than perfect paint if its applied right. You can get good results from Zaino as well, that will compare with a typical wax or synthetic.

But don't limit yourself to one medium, especially if you are not satisfied with the results. You will be quite surprised at the results of some other products available with just some research and trial and error by your own standards (Actually that was the mistake that I made....now my wallet curses me..........................but I did ultimately obtain the results I was looking for)!

That's contrary to one of the selling points that most Zaino users advocate. Not that I don't necessarily agree with you.

Re: Not happy with zaino!

i sort of agree with some comments made in this thread
zaino is basically just a sealant and i don't think it should really be used too much with a less than adequate paint job
the z5 worked good on my rs but didn't seem to help much with the z28
i'm not sure if i need to apply another couple of coats to get it to look better, but it does look about right on par with some other products i've used
one point i don't agree with though, is that it is a "tough animal to master"
it really isn't too hard to use (especially if you use the bare minimum like i did just so i could save the product and not run out as fast;p )
it's one of the easiest things i've ever applied and taken off actually

next time though, i might try something different
the price is way too much for what it is imo (20$ for a small little bottle of zfx?!)
(note, i'm only talking about the exterior products; i've yet to use the interior products)

Re: Not happy with zaino!

I think lbls1 was trying to convey that getting Zaino to work optimally is tough to master. I agree that it is very easy to apply and remove, as easy as anything I've ever used.

I don't think price is an issue. Up front it seems steep, but you use so little, that it's not that bad.

It contains no "polishing" compounds. It will not polish out swirls. I've used numerous coats of Z5, and it isn't very effective at even filling in swirls/scratches, let alone fixing them. If you are looking to rid your car of swirls and scratches, I would tell you to not start here.

Three layers of Z5 never totally filled the light swirls and scratches, let alone fixed them.edited for typos
ditto on that. my paint was good but not great to start with. i am up to 4 coats of z-5 and the swirls are still there with little affect. i think next time i will look into an alternative to get rid of the swirls.

Yes, because I stunk at my attempt at it. I thought I was following directions as well. It was a combination perhaps of something that didn't go quite right with the application, and the fact that I was more accustomed to waxed paint finishes. My brother used my supply a year later and he had better results, but the car (my former car that he purchased) was 10 years old but well maintained. There were signs that zaino responded to paint differently than wax, such as more visible swirl marks. But for the most part the result was decent, especially for 10 year old paint.

What were we talking about???? Oh yeah. If you're still not satisfied, my previous offer stands, and that's to try other medium of paint finishers until you are satisfied.

You have to give Zaino some credit, particularly since I tend to be very hard on finish results, and also being biased to carnauba wax.
