Unhappy OMG! I have a rust problem!!!!!!!!!!

Things just went from bad to worse. Let me give you some history on the car first. It has been a daily driver in colorado for years and as we know it is dry and salt is not used so i have never had any rust on the car before. After driving it in colorado for 3 years and collecting lots of rock chips, dings, and whatever else that has caused the paint to scratch or go away i never really payed much attention to it because it would not rust. Now after the car has just been sitting in North Dakota, there is rust everywhere. I just noticed this today after closely starting to clean up for the engine. There are some pretty bad spots up on the strut towers and various other scratches in the engine bay. Some i was able to sand away but some leave pits in the metal i can't get to with sand paper. After seeing this i figured i better take a close look under the car. I almost started to cry. There is rusty spots all over under the car. Also on the rear fender lips where rocks have chipped the paint. What do i do now??? Should i undercoat it or will that just cover up the rust and it will continue to eat away at my baby.

Please someone help me for i have never delt with rust on vehicles and have no idea what to do and am ready to cry.

Rust under the car is common, this starts to happen as soon as it leaves the auto factory. You can remove rust from metal using Naval Jelly, and this company www.por15.com are experts in rust removal and re painting.

Would putting this or plain undercoating over the rust cause problems or will it be ok to do?

Thanks for the link and suggestion!

Skip the undercoating and get the POR 15, hence the name POR , Paint Over Rust.

The rust acts as a primer for the POR 15 paint and it is like a powder coat finish when dry. The rubber under coating can not hold a candle to the POR.

I have done my car and many here have.

Looks like i will be ordering some up in that case! I already undercoated the wheel wells and trunk floor pan but that wasn't rusty at all.

PS, Kevin, can i apply my zaino when it is around freezing outside or wait till spring? And thanks for all the help, you saved the day!

Do you have ZFX?, I would think that that would help drying, there is no problem in application on a cold surface, it is the dry time that you might have a problem with, best done in a garage in the winter time.
