Post Decisions decisions

Well it's been almost a month since I totalled the 93 Z.

I'm having trouble deciding what I should do for the future. I've got the LT1 Caprice, soon to have a rebuilt transmission. That's because I'm going out of my mind driving a 2.2L 5-speed S10 work truck around town.

I've got many options. I thought about buying a 91 Isuzi Impulse, turbo AWD car ($500). Or maybe a 92-93 Typhoon ($9000-15000). Or a 89-92 4WD Blazer (~$500 - to lower, make AWD, and swap in a V8). Or maybe a 2000 Camaro SS 6 speed ($19000).

I'm really going out of my mind and want a Camaro again though, since I had mine for 5 years and in the past 2 years could never bring myself to trade it in on something else.

The other option is to get a personal loan for a few thousand, buy 20" wheels, system, tint, leather interior for the Caprice and drive that around as my only vehicle. It's going to have hydraulics as well, since I have that sitting around. It'll be a fun ride but as anyone knows whos had juice (hydraulics) it's not really compatible with a fast car.

Whatever I go I'm getting anxious to have something to pimp again.

Also if anyone in the Daytona area knows where I can get my 94 Caprice tranny removed ,rebuilt and reinstalled for under $1000 let me know..

Hey Doug,

Did you try Stan's Transmissions? They have a pretty good rep as far as I know.

As far as a fast car, if I can get my stock bottom 350 Impala SS to run 117.9 mph, you can too

Typhoon sounds good, if ya can find one

What about a Buick GN? I've read about a couple nice ones on another board I frequent.

Or, a Stang 5.0? Can go fast with not much $$$

Selling a automatic transmission out of a 94Z if you are interested. We REALLY need to sell it because it is my friend's car who was in the accident and his parents need the money (the paid for the car, he did insurance but he had no collision).

George: That's not a bad idea, except my Caprice has more than 200k miles on the stock bottom end

I'm going to wait a little while and see how I feel after I get the Caprice back from the tranny shop. I might just do the lowrider car show thing for a while..

I don't mean to hijack your thread but I need a favor from a Daytona Beach area resident.

I cant' seem to get my starter off. I guess GM thought it would be funny to torque one of the bolts to 300 ft-lbs. D@mn bastards. i tried all I could to no avail. So basically I think it needs a impact wrench to get it off. I dont' have one so I was hoping I could borrow someones here. Oh yea and an air compressor too since I don't have one of those either

Yea I know sounds shady doesn't it.

Doug I thought I saw your car driving around the other day. Black Caprice wagon. Aftermarket rims but not sure if they are the same one from your sig. But with you saying your tranny is shot right now then that is doubtfull. Anyways it was in the Bel air Plaza out in front of the subway. Anyways if that was you stop into the Salty Dog Surf Shop sometime and say hi. thats where I work. That goes for the rest of you too

I am guessing you and your club meet up every once in a while? i wouldnt' mind hanging out with you guys someitme or just go cruising with you guys. That is if you dont' mind. Thanks

Oh yea anyone posting in here have an engine hoist I could borrow for a day? Or know where I could rent one for a reasonable price? Who should I call to rent one? Thanks

Shaun

Car goes to the transmission shop tomorrow to get fixed and hopefully I'll be putting the hydraulics in by next weekend.. I'll probably do it next Saturday-Sunday so I can take it to Speedworld on Friday for a pre-hydraulics run I don't know how much the hydraulics will hurt the launch, but I'll be using springs still so it'll probably weight transfer okay, it just won't have front or rear shocks...

No impact wrench here.. sorry. I usually just take a floorjack handle and put it on the end of the ratchet... Nothing that 4 feet of leverage can't break loose

I've still got the 88 Stroker Camaro. I don't have it listed anywhere but do need to get rid of it. Too many cars in the driveway.

How much for the 88 Stroker Camaro?

What does it run in the 1/4 mile?

I don't think an impact would be the best bet. My favorite qoute is beat the s*^t out of it and heat the pi$$ out of it. I have a like 18" breaker bar and a stainless steel extension that would get any bolt under about 500ft/lbs off. Not the safest thing in the world, but better than some. If it is a hardened steel bolt, I would heat it first.

Off part of Wed this week, and Mon and Tues next. Let me know!

I only went a few times and never drove home happy. It either broke something, wouldn't hook up, or just wasn't running right everytime I went - with the exception of the last time I went. I had traction, it ran 'almost' great and nothing broke. But it was right after I put in the new tranny. I autocross. I don't drag race. I ran mid to high 14's in 90+ heat and humidity. I was setting it up to autocross and never got around to the cam swap. The TQ is for a stock Vette. Not a high stall like before. The cam is for mid to high RPM and so is the intake manifold come to think of it. It had a 3000 stall before and I couldn't keep the back tires on the ground when I autocrossed. The first time I went it had no traction in 1st or second. I spun off and on until I shifted to 3rd at 1000 feet. It also had a fuel starvation problem midway through 2nd gear if it did hook. It ran low 15's. The next time I changed the fuel pump. It stalled off the line and every time I floored the gas. No times. I never stopped at the shack I was so pissed. Too much fuel pressure for the carb. The next time I went it was running awesome with the new regulator. I broke the tranny mount off the line on my 1st and only pass and limped the rest of the way. The only other trip to OSW was after the tranny rebuild. It still had the fuel starvation problem through the second half of 2nd gear. I've since cured that ill by rerouting fuel lines to use the original in-tank electric pump instead of the mechanical. And a Mallory regulator. It was sucking through the return line before and had no way to return gas to the tank. Fuel would sit and vaporize in the line. It sucked. But all fixed now. But it's rained every day since May as you know. So now you know the whole story.

If you were to change back to a 2500+ stall TQ I'd would think it would run in the 13's as it is. It just takes forever to get into the powerband off the line. I only want $2,000 for it. Here are the next mods I was going to do until I got my SS: Bigger radiator (currently from the original V6-overheats only on highway), install stereo(Pioneer cassette), replace headliner (currently leopord skin), fix vent blower(there is a vacuum line somewhere in the dash that was never reconnected after the previous owner did the motor swap. It only blows through the defrost and feet.).

It does have potential. I just lost interest. I have too many projects to work on cars for fun right now. But if you're into that sort of thing...
