Going to UCF in January...
More than likely i'll be transfering to UCF in January. I was up at the campus looking around last weekend but didn't have time to check out the dorms. Are they very nice? Where would be a good place to stay near school?

Domrs are kinda crappy and cost about the same as off campus housing from what I here, exceot you cannot stay in them around christmas time, you have to move out.
As for off cmapus, I personally liked Northgate, its not perfect but of the evil places around I think it is definitely the lesser of the evils, cheapest place I statyed at in Orlando, but the bedrooms are smaller then the average apartments, but the living rooms are bigger then most apartments. Its not exactly party central, as other places I have been in have been but its kinda nice, parties are great but not next door till 6am if you have work or class the next day. I think rent is $470 a month starting for next year, I am moving out and in with my girlfriend into a government subsidized place, its ghetto, its cheaper, and its bigger and allows pets
And it is possibly the closest place to campus. As for Village at sciencce drive, that place is crap, I lived there when it was College Suites at Science drive, but they went out of business after 2 years, management blew, and the building sucked, I lived there the first year it was open, and everything broke, was broken, or worked like crap. Closets were really big though.

dorms are good if you don't know anyone and need to meet people... other than that, dorms suck. the apartments around UCF generally are student apartments, which means they don't really care as long as you give them your cash money on time every month. the place i'm living in is northgate lakes, just north of campus. the plus of this place is that the parking spots are normal sized and they're one of the cheapest places around... but then down side is that they are famous for their small rooms. they usually hire cops to sit in the parking lot on weekend nights just to make sure nothing gets too bad. basically if your party is getting too loud they'll ask ya to turn it down, but i don't think i've seen any parties get broken up by them.

Some dorms on campus are cheaper than off-campus housing and some dorms are a little more expensive.
If you live on campus you have access to the UCF intranet, which means that if you need to use Library Services for a class project, you can do it right from your dorm instead of driving to the library if you're off campus. If you're on campus, you won't have to battle for a parking space everyday like the commuters do, you can just walk to class, this will save you gas and a hassle. You can also be on a meal plan too, which is veryt convenient if you don't like to cook every night. You also won't have to settle for a landlord who doesn't give a damn about what you think, he just wants your check every month. Also, if you're on campus, you're closer to everything and it makes things very convenient. Academic Village is the most expensive place on campus right now, but some of the other residence halls like Volusia, Flagler, etc. are cheaper.
What college are you transferring in from?

Thanks for the input everyone...
I'm just transferring from a community college like 2 minutes from my house. Polk Community College.

I lived in Lake Clare for three years... I loved it... Your own room, but your still around others to meet people...
Off Campus I like Darn it is off science drive.. Turn on to southern pine trail... Large rooms, crappy living room...

Nah, it never got started. I was thinking of starting a general muscle car club on campus, but it takes work and I'd need a little help. It would be nice to see some muscle car unity on campus instead of the usual congregation of rice.

Stay FAR away from Jefferson Commons.
I moved in when they were run by JPI. They're now managed by College Park, so things may have improved. Bad experience. Bad bad bad.
I'm moving back to Pine Habour. I had no problems with them at all when I was living there, so .. back to what works.
