Honest opinions on UCF
Well currently I'm at Palm Beach Community College, and I noticed that a lot of people here on the boards go to UCF I am seriously considering transfering to UCF due to the fact I am wholly unsatisfied with PBCC. Two things are really pushing me towards UCF 1 is the job market in Orlando being significantly bigger than Gainesville, or Tallahasee 2 the fact that the school isn't ridiculously far away from my parents and my friends. So in all brutal honesty how is the education at UCF, I'm currently a Computer Networking major looking to move into a Comp Sci or Comp Eng. program. Please let me know your honest opinions about the school and living in Orlando in general.
Thanks,
-Chris

I'm totally satisfied with UCF.
I transferred in here from a private university and UCF is better in just about every way. UCF has carved out a nice niche because we have 42,000 students, but it doesn't seem that crowded, you see your friends all the time, the professors have great availability, the classes are really great and you learn a lot. You'll have classes in the big auditoriums, but most of them are classes with about 45-50 students. I had a few friends who went to UF and FSU for the name and ended up transferring to UCF because the academic experience was better. I've never had to watch a videotape of a lecture during class and the professsors always speak English here. There are a tremendous amount of resources available to students here.
UCF sometimes stands for U Can't Finish, but that's what some people call it because they're not finishing on time, but who's fault is that...?
Just come and check out UCF for yourself, you'll like it.

First I want to address the U Can’t Finish.. I had a class resource geography only offered one term a year, but you had to take another class first offered the same term… I could not get in because of the darn prerequisite so had to wait another semester to get it, so it isn’t always the person…
Overall UCF is a good school. Orlando is a good place to live.. Great, well that might be pushing it, but you will not feel short changed if you choose UCF.
As an Alumni I would recommend it.. Each year it has gotten better than the previous. When I began in 95/96 I would say look around at other options. When I left in 99/00 I would say UCF is a top contender if your looking at Florida School..

So it is still like that.. Each of my math classes where taught by Oriental individuals. Nothing against them, but if you can not speak the language to the point the class can understand you then you should not be allowed to teach. That was my biggest pet peeve about UCF, lack of the Spoken English Language.
True Story:
In algebra one teacher had us scare the tums.. My buddy Big Dave raises his hand and goes “what are the tums and how do I scare them….” Not one person understood her all year. I felt sorry for her and for us.. It was not fair for us that we could not understand her and it was not fair how we ended up treating her because we could not understand her.

honestly i should have and would have gone to georgia tech if it wasn't for money issues, and me not wanting to take an extra two classes of high school in a community college to meet georgia's admission requirements.
look back and kick myself now, but oh well.

I have been surprised by UCF. I was not sure what to expect when I came here in 2000, but it has turned out really well for me. I am more than satisfied with the education I have received here. I was mostly surprised at how good the engineering program is at UCF. There may be some professors who don't speak english well, but the majority speak well enough (don't be fooled by some professors' last names, I've had two professors whose last names I could dream of pronouncing and they both have spoken perfect english).
Overall, I would have to say that UCF is among the best of educational institutions and is only getting better. If you choose to come to UCF I'm sure you will not be disappointed.
P.S. I am in the civil engineering program and have only had one teacher that did not speak understandable english.

I am a finance major and I have had at least three professors that I could not understand. For me it has been hit or miss. Some teachers are really good and others make things up as they go along I think. Especially the ones who teach the real estate classes. The only other problem is parking. If you get there after 9:00am good luck. The people at parking services like to compare parking passes to fishing licenses, it gives you the right to chatch one but it doesn't mean that you will. Just my .02

UCF is a pretty good school, but you really need to research your professors. Some will speak poor english, while some are grad students/teacher assistants that really don't know anything and are always refering you to the real professor for questions.
Valenica Community College is also an option, if you aren't sure about UCF.
