Cory, what have you done to prepare? Aren't you close enough to the coast where you should be evacuating? Of course, with everyone driving 2MPH on I-95N, it's probably too late now.

we went from orlando to jax only going on i-95 for about as long as it took to get from US-1 to 9A

its all about the back roads .... made it half way here at about 85-90mph

Re: hurricane thread: getting the F out of dodge edition

Traffic on 95 doesn't seem too bad right now (~11pm). If you want to get out, do it before traffic gets horrible and storm gets closer. Nothing like trying to leave and getting stuck in the middle of it on the interstate. The big problem is finding gas. Even here in Sanford there are still lines at a couple of places. This could get rough...

So why are you O-town guys so worried, try being down here! 1st we have the bs about all the voting and who is now resonsible for the elec. Now we have this stupid hurricane coming right at us! This just sucks, sorry, just blowing off some steam! I got off work at 5, and just had dinner and a shower after boarding up. Work sucks, I see people all day get thier houses ready and this was the first time I had.

I'm worried cuz a little ***** storm named Charley came through ripped a 3,000 AC unit off the roof of my work, caused a good $600 in damage to my paint, uprooted trees everywhere and ****ed up my power for like 6 days. I was outside for a little bit and watched the rain gutters and shingles fly off my building like nothing.

Even though most of us got power back, I know its barely working, there are powerlines still down around my apartment, in fact during a little wuss thunderstorm the other day we lost power for 40 minutes, to give an idea how wussy this storm was they launced a rocket out of caneveral during it.

Honestly I woudl feel a ton safer in south florida then I do here, even if I was getting the direct hit from the storm. just the building differences. Jsut little things like outside doors opening ******ds, instead of inwarsds and such.

Everyon says this storm shoudl die when it hits land, and do nothing in orlando, well when Charley hit port charlotte, I thought worse case scenario by the time it hit me way up in East Orlando it was going to be a Category 1, but likely a tropical storm, but nope. Was a cat2 almst cat 3. In my opinion, there is less land for frances to go over when it hits.

If it makes you feel anybetter, I spent 5 horus on the roof of my work yesterday cleaning up the mess from charley to prepare for frances.

I'm not sure why so many O-town folks are wigged out. The power is the big variable. I spoke to someone with Orange County gov today, and she said the power situation could be really bad, because they don't have the reserve crew they had for Charley.
Outside of that, my house isn't going to blow away.

I sent my wife and kids to Fort Myers (in-laws) for one reason only- to protect my daughter's (she's 3) sanity. She is a little too observant, so every black cloud, and every power outage is a hurricane. So, we're looking to prevent "issues." Outside of that, we'll be safe. Even if it rolls in at 150mph, it'll still be 110- by the time it gets here.

I've got plenty of ice, water, food...all ur batteries and flashlights for when the power goes out. I boarded up all 15 windows yesterday after they completely shut down every college/school/and most jobs around Palm beach county. I feel fairly safe...the reason I had not evacuated was mostly because of gas. I dont think I could go out right now and find a gas station within 50 or 60 miles that actually has ANY gas. I put my Pontiac Grand Prix GT and my 93' Z28 in the garage and the ford explorer is going to have to be a trooper outside..Ill move it up against the garage parallel to it so that the winds hopefully cant do much to it. If i see this thing coming straight at us or even if it slightly dips a little south, Im also set to just toss what I need in all 3 cars and get me and the family the hell out of here...prolly head down to miami or something. Cuz they are just gonna get a little rain and maybe some mild 30-40 mph winds. May have to wait down there to get some gas to come back, but whatever. Be Safe Ya'll

Dont ever think for once, that this one aint gonna hit you....its moving slow and its BIG AS ****!

Re: hurricane thread: getting the F out of dodge edition

We here in O-town are freaked because damage is going to be severe. There is debris from charley still everywhere. On my street, there are several stacks of fences Charley knocked over, there are bricks from the walls around my neighborhood lying around, there are giant tree logs from knocked down trees that were cut up, etc etc. My moron neighbors are making no effort to remove the trees or fences, and everyone is going to a hotel but no one is boarding up their houses. I fully expect my neighborhood to be destroyed, I just hope the debris doesn't trash my 95 Z28 any more. If a fence destroys anything I own, the first thing I am going to do is walk to my neighbors house, ring the doorbell, and knock him out for being stupid.

I don't think it'll be as bad as Charley. I live near UCF, and we got the northeast eye-wall of that one.

You're not going to die, except maybe from self-created stress.

Don't forget to step outside Sat night/Sun morning and marvel at the power of Mother Nature.

Unfortunately my baby will be out side also. If we take pics of our idiot neighbors before the storm as proof for legal reasons. That way if something does happen b/c of their sh*t, we nail em!
