My parents called me also, probably from the same area, right next to Flamingo and 595 on 130th. They lost power also. My father in law in Melbourne says he's starting to get hammered.

Re: hurricane thread: getting the F out of dodge edition

It is 7:20 PM and waves of rain bands are becomming more frequent. With the rain comes the wind. I have my cars on the North side of the condo with a tarp on the 1999 Z convertable, a car cover on another car and the 1993 race car is on the trailer, chained and double strapped down with a cover also. We have brush piled up everywhere, but is has not moved as yet. We put the heavy logs on the limbs to hold it down.
These hurricanes screw up car shows, the drag strip and take a lot of our time to clean up the mess, but Florida is worth it. When the northern states get the blizzards and ice we will be enjoying the great weather!

I have a new 383 built to the gills sitting on my engine builders stand and cannot find the time to do the install. Maybe next week if the remaining trees don't fall down.

Take care.

Jim

Hey all, I'm in Pcola, I thought we would be okay, but everytime I check the projected path it seems to be moving more west. Man I'm getting worried. We may be getting hammered as well.

Do ya'll think this thing will gain strength once it hits the Gulf of Mexico?

Well Hurricane Andrew cut across FL and exited out on the west coast, picked up again and slammed up the gulf and hit again, then cut across to the east .

Oh my gosh, I just saw the projected path and it is projected to hit Pensacola.

The eye is forming again and about to hit land; its 9:15 .

Does anyone still have power? Amazingly enough we haven't lost power yet, but I don't think the worst has hit us yet.

I don't think it has either. It has just started to make its NW move and will be running up along side you later today. You'll be in the upper right portion of it as it goes by you... that is a pretty bad spot. Expect your worst hammering later in the afternoon I do believe

Not long ago we had a huge grid disturbance... lots of people lost power right then... like close to an entire town most likely.

Hey Brent, I got a question for you. Why do the transformer's "pop" or blow up or whatever they do? It seems like here in Tuscawilla all the power lines are under ground, and the transformers seem like they'd mostly be unaffected by the storm. What causes they to blow up? And when they do why to they put out that eerie blue or green light?

This was a lame excuse for a Hurricane in Orlando, much much much milder than charlie. I'm sure it was worse by the sea, but here we didn't even lose power.

Agreed, my house and my g/f's apt didn't lose power either. It sucks cuz we went to stay at her parents house, and they lost power. Before we left we packed up all the electronics and stuff in our houses, now we have to reconnect it for no reason.

Re: hurricane thread: getting the F out of dodge edition

We got popped pretty good fot a while over here. Most of the neighbors lost the rest of their shingles. My roof poored water in my garage ceiling and it finally collapsed. The drywall landed on my Z28 but I was ready and it was covered. I am thankful it weakened, if it had hit us at its earlier strength, we'd all be in serious trouble. Ivan is on its way, maybe you'll get a more exciting one next. My father in law got pummeled in Melbourne, not so lame for them over there.

This one is a lot worse for me. I'm not at home but have been notified that I have a tree on my roof and one down in my yard. I've been without power for about 10 hours too. With Charley, I barely got any rain and basically no wind. Can't wait to go home on Tuesday to check out the damage. I was told it doesn't appear there is any structural damage so that is good!
