Road trip to Orlando...
I'm headed down there on Friday, June 27th. I've been debating for weeks what car to take though...
My beater Achieva or my Formula? Would be nice to travel without any worries (food, smoking, dents, etc) and get better gas mileage, more comfortable.
But would also be more fun to have the Formula down there, maybe go to the track. A roadtrip demands the fun car, doesn't it? Visitng my brother in Winter Park, staying 10 days. Brain says take the Oldsmobeater, leadfoot says Formula.
btw, whatever happened to the Muscle Cars of Orlando site? You guys still meet up at Hooters certain days of the month?

you shold be able to knock down 25+ mpg with the formula if you keep you foot out of it on the highway. i can't imagine an old beater would get much better than that would it?
i vote for the Formula...on principle
and it's florida...cruise to daytona and drive on the beach...pick up some ladies...ya know...

I'd say 95% of the road I've driven on in FL is smooth, free from a lot of debris/potholes and the overall condition of the roads are good. So if that's one of the reasons for not bringing your Formula, you should think about bringing it.
But...
...there is a lot of construction going on in the Orlando area right now, and you may catch a nail in your tire, get dirt on your car quickly, etc. If you bring your car change your air filter before you come down here.

Thanks for the advice guys.
I was down there in January helping my brother move in, and went to that museum (Big Daddy Don Garlits' museum). It's OK for a museum and all, nothing really exciting.
Not worried about bad roads, I live out in the country so I deal with bumps, potholes, gravel, dust, tar, racoons, etc. More worried about crazy drivers and such since they live in a busy area, but accidents can happen anywhere. Up here lately, there have been alot of incidents of punk kids throwing stuff at cars.
Looks like I'm taking the Formula. We plan on going to Daytona beach too, as well as Tampa Bay for fireworks on the 4th. Maybe I'll see you guys around.

I'm not completely sure what exactly happened to the front page of the MCO site but you can still get to the forum here:

We'll be at Hooters on the 5th.

I just took my Z28 to the midwest & back - ~2400 miles. Chuck (2002Z28SSConv) just went on the Power Tour, that must've been 3000+ miles?
The last time I went to the midwest I stopped in Tulsa, so that added another 600mi. Also took another roadtrip on business which was around 2500mi (@.33/mi, baby! - and I was on the clock while driving).
On the last trip I drove over something hard and metal that I thought would clear my exhaust, but I'm not leaking oil, so I guess that's a good sign. A car in front of me on the interstate turned a flattened soda can into a free-floating circular saw.
Other than that, the hood & front fascia tends to take a beating from dust & debris in construction areas. My front wheels were horrendously bad with brake dust this time. I had to use two doses of spray cleaner & polish to get them clean - even the rears.
But it was all worth it when I reamed a new 350Z with temp tags twice. To save some preaching, I won't divulge the details. There were lots of Vettes in Nashville for the Vette convention, but I went through during rush hour so no chance to play there.
On the first tank from Orlando to Macon I put on 388.6 miles. The pump stopped at 13.12gal (29.6MPG) and then I topped it off to 13.668gal (28.4MPG). The best mileage I had gotten before was ~27MPG, but that was when the weather was 30-40* and that affects fuel economy.
Just bring the Formula, borrow some Zaino while you're in the area to clean'er up for the show, and clean it again when you get home
