Tampa - why so much crime?

I am trying to find a place to move too, and had a job offer in Tampa and one in Chasn SC.

Why does Tampa have more than twice the crime rate per capita than Chasn, Jax or NorVa?

Maybe because Tampa has such a high retiree population. Older folks get taken advantage of all the time. Try to find out what kind of crime your talking about.

I think the older folks are located more in Pinellas county than hillsborough and in all the beach areas of FL.

Tampa is a huge city too...like any big city there are places you are much more likely to become one of those stats and some where you are almost never going to have anything happen. Some of the places are getting nicer too.. Ybor used to be pretty shady place to hang and there have been efforts to clean it up. But there are tons of nice areas in Tampa that don't have any problems. I would try to find a more localized view. http://crimetracker.tbo.com/ You can put in the address of the company and see where all the violent crimes have happened in 2004 near it.

There's also St. Petersburg where I live that is pretty nice smaller city. Stay in the North Northeast area of St. Pete if you're potential job isn't too far into Tampa.
