Thinking about a Honeymoon in the Keys, info needed
I know we have a member here that lives in the keys, I can't remember his name though. I'm hoping he'll be able to help out a little here.
My fiance and I are trying to find a relatively inexpensive honeymoon since we're trying to save for a house. We're trying to spend no more than $2k for everything, so we're thinking about maybe doing the Keys, since we can dive there(save on plane tickets) and spend more money on food. So, where is a good place to go? We don't want a party town, we'd like something relaxing but still have plenty to do. We really want a room with a hot tub/spa in the room, but if we have to sacrifice that we can. Mostly we just want a place that's scenic, relaxing and has fun things to do. We also need to know what the weather is like down there in early June. Not sure how much hotter it is in the keys, and if it's a good idea to go in early summer or not.
We're still open to going other places, we're not dead set on the keys. We just want to find a place that we're not blowing all our money on the hotel and can't spend anything on food.
Any suggestions would be great!

Get with Teke. I think he is in Marathon.
Do a search for the smaller keys in the middle..Islamorada, Marathon, yadda yadda. I usually do Key West, but I am going for the party town. Get away from real life for a weekend.
Have you thought about the Bahamas? Airfare is cheap enough from Lauderdale or Miami....

Tell people you're on your honeymoon and they might comp your food and drink. A buddy of mine just got back from his honeymoon in the Tampa/St. Pete area and he was telling me how all the money they had set aside for food & drink didn't get spent. Restaurant owners/managers and/or other friendly patrons may just pay your bills for you if they know you're honeymooning. Just some advice from your friendly neighborhood Jewish guy.

The next time I'm at dinner with a date, I'm gonna tell the waiter it's a honeymoon and see what happens.

I got married in november and we went on a 7 day cruise, i think it was just around two grand, and i had the time of my life, it went to grand caymen, cazumel, belize and costa maya. And on the ship you can eat whenever you want and however much you want, room service 24 hours a day, all you can eat is awesome.....And the food is awesome.......If i were you thats the way I would go, We used carnival cruise lines......Best time ever...

Tonedef, how did you book your cruise? We've had a hard time finding one around the date we want and around our budget. It seems impossible to navigate around the cruiselines websites, they really are hard to find info. From what I've heard either Carnical or Royal Caribbean is the best. Is there a better way to book them besides on their site? Is it better to get it through Orbitz/travelocity/etc? Also, what kind of bed did you guys get? I know alot of cruises give you two twin beds that you can push together to make a queen/king, but it seems like that would be uncomfortable since there would be a crevice down the middle.
Any info you can give us would be great.
Also, anyone know anything else about Key West? Like which idlands are best? We want to be near all the fun stuff, but somewhere more quiet so we don't have college age partiers next to our room.
Thanks for the help so far guys!

Cruise is by far and away my vote. You can book through Expedia or the cruise line. There is a place on Colonial in Orlando like Just Cruises or something. That is what we did. We did a 7 day Carnival that was Tampa to Grand Cayman to Cozumel to New Orleans. That was a lot of fun, and I am glad that I got to New Orleans pre Katrina. We saw a lot of stuff that was destroyed.... I want to go back next year or the year after and see what is left....
Anyways, go for the cruise if that is what you are thinking about. You will not regret it. I vote for Carnival. It tends to be the younger more fun crowd. We also did a 10 day Royal Carribean that was real nice, but a much older group that was all in bed by 10.....ok almost all. 2000 people on a boat...

Teke184 is who you're looking for, he lives in Marathon. He also dives, and I know you mentioned you wanted to do that. Email him, he's probably on vacation or something if he hasn't chimed in on this thread yet.

Well I saw this place on the travel channel and it looked awesome.
It's not cheap but you only get one honeymoon.
Check it out.
