Since you pretty much have to take the front end apart to install the spring/shock assembly, you might want to consider new upper and lower a-arm bushings and new upper and lower ball joints. Energy Suspension makes a good set of polyurethane replacment bushings. Any high quality ball joint (Moog??) should be OK. You need to drop the sway bar links to get the spring/shock assembly out, so new end link bolts/bushings/sleeves (also from ES) would be a good idea.

When you disassemble the upper spring seat from the shock, there's a good chance the seat will be damaged, or just dry rotted from age. Get upper spring seats for both sides.

It is possible to get the spring/shock assembly out without removing the sway bar endlink, or without popping a ball joint, but it takes a bit of muscle to do it that way.

Re: 2" springs in front .... need shim kit?

Well I just bought a set of Eibach Sportlines and was going to do the same thing, put just the fronts in until I could afford to do the entire suspension with HAL's and Drag Launch springs. I didn't realize it would have such a negative effect. I think this thread has changed my mind..
