95 Z28, Brake problem????

I seem to have a slight problem with the brakes on my car.......they dont work. Everything seems ok but something is wrong. When I hit the brake pedal its like it bleading off the vaccume and the brakes dont grab at all. You can hear it, you hit the pedel and the whole time it just makes this sound like radio static. I can stand on the pedal and it does nothing. I've bled the brakes and havent got any better or worse. The brake light on the dash is on but will I be able to check that with some kind of a scanner? The only thing I can think of is the abs pump thinks the tires are locked up and its not letting any more pressure to the calipers.

Now that I think about it, I bled the car with the key off, meaning no power to the abs, should I bleed it with the key on?

What does everyone else think?

Might be a dumb question, but have you checked your pads? sounds like metal on metal to me... And no, bleed the car with the keys off.. There is a procedure that you must follow if ABS had been active when you turned the car off though.. it's in most manuals.. (even the cheap one from autozone) requires a Tech1 I think.

pads are fine, a little low but still fine. Its almost like the booster is bleeding off the vaccume.

When my booster went out, I still had brakes... It was a lot harder to push but I could stop the car. There just wasn't that initial hit of brakes..

You should easily be able to diagnose the booster..

I dont think its that, I hit the pedel and its hard but the car doesnt stop, If I push harder it doesnt get any better.

Frozen pistons or pad abutment rods...?
Also could be a bad master cylinder, I guess...
You said that you've blead it several times, are you seeing the fluid pump through?

Re: 95 Z28, Brake problem????

I think its the booster now. The only reason I think that is b/c when the car is running and I hit the brakes the idle changes just a little and then goes back to normal but if I rev it to lets say 2000rpm then hit the brakes the rpms jump to 2500. It wont do it at idle b/c the ecu is making it idle at the set rpm.

But that still doesnt explain why the pedel is rock hard and cant be pressed passed a certain point.

I have an ls1 setup in the garage, I was waiting for my rotors to get here so I can put them on. The car has the original calipers on it with no rebuild so who knows.
