Abs inop
This just happened today,I was driving along and I looked down to see that the ABS INOP light was on..I scanned it and it says that the brake is on?Any ideas on what could be wrong?I thought about deleting the ABS unit anyway because the car is never driven in the rain or snow, also it would free up a few pounds..

Re: Abs inop
Do you mean the "BRAKE" light is on? If the e-brake is not on, that indicates a pressure imbalance between the front and rear braking hydraulics, due to a leak, air in system, master cylinder pressure problems, etc. That would explain why the EBCM turned off the ABS.
Moving to "Suspension, Chassis and Brakes".
Moving to "Suspension, Chassis and Brakes".

Re: Abs inop
It lights up and says ABS INOP,I bled all four corners last night and it is still on,replaced the relay, and the 2 fuses for the ABS.I thought it was due to having air still in the brake lines, the brakes are definetly alot better. The light is still on.

Re: Abs inop
What did you mean by this?
"I scanned it and it says that the brake is on?"
Is this based on an ABS code? My EBCM code list does not have a code that says "the brake is on".
There is a PCM code for "brake switch stuck on".

Re: Abs inop
I am unable to get the actual code number again,When I first scanned it PO@#$ showed up followed by "brake is on".....It is not throwing any more codes, but the ABS INOP is still on..I am going to try and clean the ABS sensor in the rear end tomorrow and see if that is the problem.

Re: Abs inop
But what did you scan - the PCM or the ABS controller (EBCM)?
The brake light switch, on the pedal, is an input to both the PCM and the ABS. If the switch is stuck "on", that would probably cause the ABS to stop working.

Re: Abs inop
Does he mean he actually saw a code 37 and it did NOT actually say to him "stuck on".
Do you suppose his third brake light is out and that's why he has an "ABS INOP" lit?
Or is to coincidental that the brake switch is on and the ABS INOP is on?????
The Action described for a 37 does NOT describe an ABS INOP light.
In the ABS section of the manual, it describes a DTC 94 for brake switch always closed. However the action taken for this is to NOT disable the ABS.
I think the young padawan is mistaken and very confused. Take it to someone with a good scanner and knows how to read it.

Re: Abs inop
I am 37 yrs old...I have a mac scanner,I dont remember the code number off hand, but it did say "brake is on"..my third brake light is working, now that you mention it,the ABS INOP came on when I installed my SS spoiler, the plugs matched up so I did not think anything of that until now.
I did not have the time today to clean the ABS sensor on the rear end or check the brake switch out..I will do that for sure tomorrow and report back.

That is most likely your problem.
